Pre-sell.
Here...

Manufacturers link.
Visture V97

I have read nothing really bad about the brand.

Could this be too good to be true?

Opinions ..on brand quality & this tab ...please comment!

PS: When looking ...it appears that there are more of these sold in the UK ...looking at Amazon.UK. Nothing showing on regular Amazon. That is interesting!

Hi! This is my 2nd post here @ slatedroid!

I've been reading a LOT of information and reviews of tablets these past few days... This Visture v97 HD is most certainly an interesting device!
It has everything I want, 9.7", 2048x1536, 2 GB RAM... The weakest link here is probably the RK3188, I mean a lot of chinese brands are using this SoC,
but it's still too early to see if the lag I see in reviews is going to disappear or if it's going to be part of the tablet forever by lack of firmware upgrades.
Personally I would prefer a tablet powered by the Exynos 4412, but I haven't found one in 4:3 2048x1536. As I intend to use it mostly to read my
college books on it the 16:10 aspect ratio makes no sense in my case.
Now, if only someone could get their hands on this Visture v97 and post some first impressions it would be great! I've seen a video on youtube
of a similarly spec'ed tablet, the Cube U9GT5 Quad, if no Exynos model comes out in the meantime it's going to be Visture v97 HD or the Cube.

Or do you guys know by any chance of any other tabs with those characteristics?

I am in the same quandary ...to a point.

I have no doubt the 3188 is the best of the Chinese SOC ..yet, I read of the Exynos 4412 and how smooth it is ...even with 4.0. It is likened to iPad magic.

It has plenty of power and feels fast, even though it does this all with lower scores. What gives? It just has to be that Samsung is better at the SOC game.

If you want a Exynos 4x3 9.7" tablet ...take a look at the Momo11 Quad.

I am ...looking that is. I still like what I see here in the Visture.

My thoughts exactly! Some are even saying the RK3066 and the RK3188 don't feel that different, except for the much-improved multi-tasking abilities of the quad-core.
Imho buying a RK3188-based tab right now is kind of a gamble, as in we don't know yet how optimised it will be in a few months. That said, the SoC is already great as it is,
don't get me wrong, from what I've seen it's very capable of keeping up with whatever you throw at it. It's just that when I see the Exynos in action in some vids
the lag is almost non-existent. Samsung is really doing a great job.

Since all the chinese tablets in this performance range are about 250€/$, it's a question of finding the one that we like most and hoping for the best!

Right now my favourite is still the V97 HD. I've seen reviews of the Momo11 Quad but I'm after a retina display, after having used a friend's iPad 4 for a while I think
the 1024x768 doesn't cut it anymore. I want to use my tab to read and to help me with my photography hobby, so the screen is really important.

Now, I guess we just have to find the right place to order our tablets
Image
! I've never bought anything directly from China so I'm still learning which sites I can trust.

Is there any way of knowing when they'll have the initial batch ready? On the pre-sale they only mention mid-april
Image
!

#9 ·
No, and to top that off I have read that Visture has placed a tab out for pre-sale and never made it. I really don't know if that is accurate or not, though.

As far as dealing with sites from China ...just stay away from some that get really bad reports. They all seem to mess up from time to time. Most of it is communication issues mixed with a time change.

Right now I am liking buy in coins.com & lightake .com. Lightake has a 6.00 upgrade to DHL, which is super cheap compared to others. I have tried to buy from them both, and they were both unable to deliver, no stock on the Ramos W42 I was shooting for.

The aggravation came in the fact that apparently most, if not all these China tab suppliers state that an item is in stock, when what it is that usually they know the plant is still making them and they need 3-7 days to get it shipped from there. My issue came with the W42 in that they stopped production for some reason, and the sales office did not get the message. After they found out, they did refund my Paypal fairly promptly.

Hope this helps.

First of all happy easter everybody!

So, I'm about to take the plunge and pre-order one of these as well. I'm just waiting for a reply from EleGadget on aliexpress because I want the visture case/keyboard thingy as well and I want to make sure that it's the original one they're selling with their 'bluetooth kb + case' option.
Any thoughts on this seller? Are they reliable?
Otherwise I'll pre-order the tablet on lightake and buy the case somewhere else! Right now EleGadget has a 'shipping within 35 days' notice and lightake mentions early-april, but in my opinion they'll receive it at the same time from the factory.

Did anyone else here pre-order other than PocketSmiley? By the way, did you get more info on ETA from lightake after placing the order?

#14 ·
I wanted to get the keyboard+case as well, and I want it so badly. But the PayPal protection has priority. ElGajet seems to be trustworthy based on their convincingly authentic, positive customer feedback, especially the "Lilian" character. If I didn't have any other choice, I would have gladly bought from them.

What I did was, I bought the leather case from Lihgtake as well--with "retailmenot" 5% off coupon, I get $13 off, which takes care of the leather case and DHL shipping, totaling $260. Then, I bought an iPad keyboard case from Aliex for $15. It's a Mac keyboard that doubles as a case, and many have reported the Mac keyboard as compatible with android. I just wish it fits the tablet just fine, considering its dimensions are almost similar to the iPad. I didn't buy the Visture keyboard+leather case a la carte, since they cost $50 shipped.

Basically, all I saved was $15, and the risks include a case that won't fit and a keyboard that won't work. I really wish I could've gotten the Visture keyboard+leather combo. I also think that both Elgajet and Lihgtake will have the tablet in stock at the same time; but I'm not sure which estimate is closest.

#15 ·
I ended up ordering both the tab and the case+keyboard on Aliex with EleG. The fact they're featured on the brand's website and as you say the genuine feedback they've received for other tablets in general and the Visture V5 HD in particular lead me to think I had little to fear. So far so good, they've replied very quickly to tell me the tablet should be in stock by the end of the month or early may. Sounds good even if obviously I'm all for the former rather than the latter. Now let's just hope we both have a positive experience with our sellers! It's gonna be a long month

Specs look good, but the GPU isn't that great, wright?

GPU: 533Mhz Mali-400 x 4

http://www.cnx-softw...ia-geforce-ulp/
Pretty sure this is the same GPU that is being used in the Exynos 4412, and it's implementation there is getting excellent reviews.
There is is a chart here showing Exynos and some good info on the Mali400.
Exynos

The RK3188 is obviously the best SOC solution right now for China tabs other than the Exynos, but there looks to be some maturing time needed for it to come to the level of the 4412. Right now the Exynos just has it all together, but that is not saying it won't be a close run between it and the 3188 before long.

Resume:
I think this device has not a bad performance. Compared with my RK3066-8-inchers the 97RQ is faster when changing the screens or opening menus. The difference can be described like the Antutu values ca. 11.000 against 14.000. When apps are running I don't see big differences in the performance. Especially apps like readers or browsers are working bad on the 97RQ. The RK3066s are doing this better and smoother.

I guess I have good eyes but maybe I am too blind to see big advantages of a retina display. Months ago I have had a 9.7 inch IPS tablet (1024 x 768) and the screen was beautiful. I cannot see an huge or important difference in the daily use of a retina display. Comparing the 97RQ retina with a book reader the tablet never reaches a reader's feeling and look. You cannot replace your book reader with the RQ97. If you feel that it is equal to a book reader you must have another device than mine or maybe you are a dreamer.

Fazit:
The 97RQ is worth each cent compared to the devices sold from Samsung etc. But I don't see the advantage of the retina-display regarding it slows down the performance (maybe this could be solved with firmware-updates or custom-firmwares). Don't forget that the firmware is clocked only up to 1.608 MHz. Clocking it up to 1.800 MHz could improve the performance but maybe results in heating up. I would not buy the 97RQ again at this moment. I think a RK3188 device with lower resolution like around 1.200 will have the better performance and will be the better choice.

So is the consensus basically back where we started ... avoid the Retina for now with China tabs?

The 3188 looked to be possibly a savior in this scenario, but apparently not ...for now anyway.

Sad ...for some. Me? I see the China tabs making strides with the Exynos and 3188 ...just sticking with a good IPS.

Maybe the 3166 will get there, or is the new Exynos 5250 the next big thing?.

SmartQ is supposedly coming with that before long.

Wonder if anyone has a crystal ball into performance of an Exynos DUAL CORE, with a faster and more capable GPU ... powering a Retina?

Would that do it? Is that the next step for China tabs and Retina?

I started a thread here on the new 5250.

Hi guys, today I've received my Visture V97HD
Image
Let me tell you first impressions / test results.
HW specs are as announced by manufacturer BUT: CPU is clocked to 1.6GHz and not to 1.8GHz, the HDMI is not full-sized connector but HDMI mini. dimensions 9.8mm X 240 mm X 188mm. RW on microSDHC 32GB Sandisk with spec. read45/write40MB is only 9/12MB in tests, I have to play with filesystems probably... USB OTG works, flash disk with fat32 without problem, more filesystems will be tested tomorrow. The laptop is able to start external 2.5" HDD but then it says corrupted storage - I used EXT4 formatted drive - will play tomorrow with other filesystems again. Display looks very good, speakers could be more louder, power connector is very long and fits firmly and secure - no worry about damaging it. headphones output dissapointed me, there is total silence but when some sound plays, in the background I can hear quite a noise, when sound stops, there is a "click" and silence again... the escape and volume buttons are well done, the problem is with power button which will be used very often. it doesn't hold very firmly and I'm a little bit affraid that it will "jump out" after some time => we'll see in the future. The screen protector had one bubble under it, luckily out of the display itself. as a pre-order I received the promised 8GB microSD card and extra screen protector. Globally the design and material is pretty nice and good, I like it very much. Back cover is metal/alluminium (?) and the wifi signal is strong - working now over 2 brick walls 50cm wide each + 10 meters from access point. Bluetooth works also fine. the keyboard holds on the leather cover using magnets + looks very good. I had to delete pre-confgured bluetooth devices in the tablet and pair it again (no problem). Back camera (5MP) does quite good job when taking pictures in normal light conditions, in small office with not much light the pictures were quite noisy + picture was really 5MP. The front 2MP camera did in the same office with the same low light much better job - better contrast and colors, photo resolution was 1.9MP. Videos taken from both in lower light conditions are almost unusable. The front camera takes 640x480 mp4 9fps (!) video with 44kHz AAC mono audio 61kbit/s. The rear camera takes 640x480 mp2 22.5fps video with 44kHz AAC mono 61kbit/s audio. The mic isn't sensitive much so forget your spy thoughts

Wow nice info. How about pdf reading and games like Dungeon Hunter 4? Did it come with Google Play? What about screen brightness, is it too dark or is it good to read under the sun?
Do you recommend it if my main use will be reading?

#40 ·
Browsing experience differs in each browser - integrated one, firefox, chrome. Also forcing GPU to render 2D makes a huge difference. Are there any specific webpages you want me to test so you can compare? Try to find something heavy
Image
Btw, navigating in app list and settings manager is pretty fast but on home screen it's terrible when it's full of icons. When I delete half of them, the speed rised significantly - same experience had my colleague on Asus Transformer 3xx on android 4.1.1 but then after he updated to 4.2, the problem disappered... I'll try to set only 1 color wallpaper or disable wallpaper and check again. Regarding video, I'm able only to record in low quality so I will try to find some way...

#41 · (Edited by Moderator)
@ afk_cz

Thanks for your reply.

Never mind if your cam is low quality, because I don't want to read. I only want to see the performance. If you like you could test the following:

1. Browsing with stock browser (which is normally the fastest) on sites with a lot of pictures, like magazine sites. In Germany f.e. I use www.bild.de
2. Radaee PDF reader for PDFs with lot of pictures, like magazines. First you have to change Radaee-settings to show in page format, then real page flipping is enabled.

But as you said that the launcher is lagging when having many icons or widgets on it, I fear that your V97 is as laggy as the Cubes or my Vido. Anyway I would like to see how your baby performs.

As an example how I did show my performance problems you can have a look on my video here:

Edit:
Could you ask your seller to give you a link for your firmware to download. I would like to test it on my Vido.

another benchmark results:

-Epic Citadel Benchmark:
HQ 2048x1440 (res.@100%)- 28fps
Performance 2048x1440 - 28.9fps
HQ 1536x1080 (res.@75%)- 27.9fps
HQ 1024x720 (res.@50%)- 24.8fps
... because it's strange to get worse results with lower resolution, I ran the benchmarks few times but nothing changed.

-RealPi Benchmark:
10k digits- 0.19s
1M digits- 20.50s
5M digits- 224.46s
... I always used AGM+FFT Formula setting

-RL Benchmark SQLite Perf. 1.3:
overall score- 37.324s

-Benchmark&Tuning Free:
total 12034 (CPU 7774, MEM 3231, I/O 1029)

-Quick Benchmark Lite 1.30
total 3379

I tested USB and microSD storage possibilities with following results:
microSD is readable only when formatted to FAT32 or NTFS. Ext2/3/4 and exFAT were reported as "damaged storage".
USB stick (some 4GB ADATA C802 lowend) was readable only when using FAT32 or NTFS. all Ext2/3/4 and exFAT were unreadable.

if I format microSD in the tablet directly via settings menu, FAT32 is the only filesystem it is able to create
Image

if I format microSD cartd outside the tablet to NTFS, android is able to use it so I can use files larger than 4GB on it.

the lack of Ext filesystem is little bit uncomfortable to me because I have it everywhere. it's only the question of loaded modules so hopefully somebody will do some alternative image with FAT32/NTFS/exFAT/Ext2,3,4 support
Image

I'm going to test external USB 2.5" HDD formatted to NTFS now...

#48 ·
so external 2.5" HDD from Seagate via USB OTG cable ran without problems (NTFS used). I only forced one difficulty. When using 2.5" hdd and then plugging in the power adaptor, the drive goes immediatelly to sleep. If I unplug power charging, the HDD goes up again. It seems like issue/feature (?) between USB OTG and charging.

playing movies: I tried to play .ts files recorded from my Dreambox 800 HD SE satellite receiver in full HD MPEG4 and AAC sound - no problem with MX player and HW+ decoding. HW decoding (not HD+) had problems with audio synchro and SW decoding was too slow. Daroon player crashed on these .ts files immediately. Playing AVI DivX DVD rips was without problems. Ialso played mp4, flv and 720p mkv files without problems. If you want me to test other video files or some audio formats, let me know

I watched the video that you've linked and also the others that are available on youku(about the V97 and N90FHD)
I agree with you that they will probably be equal in performance. but a bit worse than the U9GTV.

Thou i don't agree that they perform bad, yes they lag sometimes but Rk3188 is still in it's early stages of developing, and will probably be better in the near future.

Well, my opinion maybe a bit optimistic but my tablet is an A10, and you know how bad an A10 can be.(well it runs dungeon hunter 4 on low settings. it's something)

Just came back to say that I cancelled my order 2 weeks ago. The tablet looks promising though, I wouldn't have been disappointed!

I got a new (non-refurb) iPad 3 for 379€ on eBbay instead, I checked with Apple and my warranty started the day I registered the product online. I'm really happy with it, I just figured that the 200€ for the V97 plus 85€ import taxes in my country weren't worth it... 100€ more and I can take my iPad to the Apple store down the block if I have a problem, and I don't have to wait for custom firmwares and custom ROMs to remove lags.

@pogodancer: don't take it the wrong way, but you seem too picky and harsh when it comes to judging these chinese tablets. they seem to get the job done, maybe not perfectly but in a more than decent way. if I were you I'd just buy an iPad, you seem to take so much time in finding faults everywhere. you'd save some time and some patience. just my 2 cents

Edit: had to change formatting because of random smileys! what's up with that?

Good evening,
I'm using this tablet every day many hours and I'm really excited. I borrowed it to my colleagues and 2 of them made an order already
Image

I realized that there's an update few minutes ago so I haven't updated yet. I spent a lot of time customizing the layout and apps
and I played a lot of games I must say
Image
) What will happen to my settings and installed apps after update ??? ... I was about
to update to android 4.2 first + I can't see any changelog for this latest update of 4.1 :-/

When I was complaining about the power button first, now I must say that it's almost OK after some time of using it. The build is almost perfect, only
one bubble under the protector is present but it's out of display. Wi-fi works perfect for me - nothing changed since last time. Battery life is very
good. I believe that it could really last up to 10 hours while browsing + wifi on. Screen is sensitive and comfortable to use.

Within 2 weeks my colleague will receive this tablet and I strongly beleive that he'll upgrade ummediatelly so I will wait. The update SW is windows
only and I'm not using windows so I'll wait for linux updater.

I haven't forced any issues yet. I still have to test few things and HDMI output as well.

today arrived another V97HD for my colleague. it was already loaded with the image from 05.05.2013 (or something like that) which is present on visture download site. we compared antutu, qadrant and RealPi benchmarks and the devices have almost the same score. he has a little bit higher 2D and 3D score (few % max) and I have higher I/O and CPU (few % as well). the total score is almost the same. the latest image has the same kernel, gcc, android version still 4.1.1. CPU is still clocked to 1.6GHz. because of missing FW changelog, I won't upgrade until android 4.2 because this small 4.1.1 update will bring me nothing.

GOOD NEWS!! I've successfully ROOTed my Visture V97HD and afterwards we rooted also colleagues updated one. All worked flawlessly. We used such how2 on winXP: how2root
on Win7 64bit I was unable to install the drivers.

Unfortunatelly I will need another kernel to be able to use Junos Pulse to connect to work via L2 VPN. Hopefully some alternative FW will occure. I haven't try some RK3188 modded firmware because it is not directly designed for my tablet and I don't want to brick it
