I know that I may regret this, but here goes. As you might have heard the Augen Tablet that is being sold at Kmart was apparently using pirated code to access the Market. To correct this they have launched this , to fix the problem. After downloading the file, it appears that I am able to search and download .apk's but I cant figure out how to install them.Anyone want to give it a try? No I'm using the right forum, I installed the .apk on my PDN
I wonder if there is anymore info about that app. Just wondering if it would work without the GE hack.

It sounds like you've (possibly) found a workaround for needing an ID. Do you know where the Market is putting the downoaded APKs? I'd try navigating there in Astro File Manager, and if you select one Astro can install it.-Matt
OK this is NOT "THE Market", but an alternative that is really interesting. It would appear that using this .apk you can just DL apps from a site that is AndAppStore : New Releases. The DL'd .apk gets stored somewhere (haven't figured that out yet), the notification bar states that your DL is ready to be installed. Pull down the notification bar and click on the install app selection, and it gets installed!!!! This .apk connects to the andappstore and DLs a list of everything that's available and allows to to browse, query, categorize apps, etc.The screwy part is that even though I registered on their site, when I enter my user ID and pwd in the apps settings page, it insists that they are invalid, although I can login at the website.
so this is working on the PDN then, right? That's a pretty good find that I'm ashamed to have missed...
Yeah, it works fine. The Software Category Headers are impossible to read though, they must be a 1 font size! I'll have to ask them to fix that....
Does it have the entire market, or just some apps? (I recall Augen changing their web page from "hundreds of thousands of apps" to "over 2000 apps", or something along those lines.)
The only way I have gotten into the market is via the emulator. I have no idea whether that site has the entire market, and I couldn't even hazard a guess regarding what the total content of the market would be. My best advice to you is install the app and go look around at what's there.....and then let us all know! Since you are the Google Experience guru, you would know better than I!/;=D
Can we take a step back & give an overview of what this apk is about? - Can I dnld the apps to the PC & then install on the PDN? - Do I have to install the apk's directly to the PDN via WiFi?- I saw a statement that the apk's are dnlded to some unknown place. Is that on the PDN?- How to get started & set up an account.

first use of drocap for screenshot. had to give root permission to app screen caps after this don't ask for SU permission.

bugeyed -- Can we take a step back & give an overview of what this apk is about? - Can I dnld the apps to the PC & then install on the PDN? Yes, from the website.- Do I have to install the apk's directly to the PDN via WiFi?You can using their own .apk, which may also be DL's directly from their website- I saw a statement that the apk's are dnlded to some unknown place. Is that on the PDN?Yeah, somewhere on the PDN's internal memory, but not on the external SD card. But I didn't take the time to look where because my battery was finished and I was in the midst of getting dinner together.- How to get started & set up an account.Either get the older .apk from the earlier post or go to the website and DL the latest version. I really don't know whether you have to register and set up an account. It appears that you can access and DL files (at least free ones) without an account.
I wouldn't go so far as to state that this site has anything to do with Augen. I think that they just found a convenient way to get apps to their users while the were in the middle of their "unauthorized use" hissy-fit with der Google.See here: News from Funky AndroidThese guys have apparently been around for awhile.

See my post above with the screenshot.Tap on an app to get details and a download button will get message that d/l has started. You will get notification when d/l is complete. Pull down down notification bar and tap on app name to launch package installer. Now just like installing apk from SD card.I'll make a wiki entry tonight. and put it in the Gentouch area.
One nice thing about apps installed in this store is it will tell when updates are avail allow you to download updates w/o searching for them.
[quote name='geebekazoo;34585]...The screwy part is that even though I registered on their site' date=' when I enter my user ID and pwd in the apps settings page, it insists that they are invalid, although I can login at the website.[/QUOTE']Same here - it keeps telling me that my username and password are not valid, yet I created an account and logged onto the web site with them, so... And you pretty much just have to look around pseudo-randomly since the categories are listed in an unreadably small font as was mentioned. You know the general category once you open one of the sub-groups, but the font thing really needs fixing.
