Dalkor, 2.2 definatly more stable that 2.1 on the W1060. Have had it running for 2.5 hours, loaded up all apk's currently have (approx 35) and stepped through them all. Not one forced close event has occured. Mighty impressed with it Fingers crossed the gps issues will get resolved for you and others that have it
The company that makes these (WITS) has a sorry history of promising customers things that are either late or never arrive.. Android 1.6 was many months late, Android 2.1 barely worked on the A81.. then WITS abandoned all the loyal A81 customers after promising them a stable Android release with GPS and Bluetooth, by bringing out the A81-E which they now seem to be concentrating on, abandoning their promise to continue developing Android on the 'old' A81. So those people who bought the A81 believing WITS? They are tossed aside. If you wish to buy from a company that acts like this so be it, and maybe you find it exciting to have bragging rights to the first 2.2 slate, but ask yourself, like the woman who 'captures' a man from his wife.. who will he leave YOU for?WITS and the truth are not easy bedfellows. I am aware of the libel laws and still advise customers.. take you money to someone who will be around tomorrow!
I was looking at the A81-E but must say your points concern me as well. Your last sentence points to which company, though? Apple? Or do we wait a few months for the well established manufacturers to break into the scene? Problem with that is that their prices will likely be similar to the ipad.
How defeatist you all are? is you philosophy that it's better to be lied to for a few hundred dollars but not for 500? What a strange way of looking at things - and as for 'if we only bought things that worked from reliable companies we would never buy anything - well scammers who make stuff and stiff you afterward must be queuing up for your hand in marriage!
[quote name='Mp4doggie;35937]Most of these devices come with little or no support . If we stopped buying devices because the manufacturer lied about support or release dates of fw ' date=' we would never buy anything .[/QUOTE'] Of course 10,000 members can be wrong! There many hundreds of millions who think Jesus is about to make a second appearance! lolAs for doing business with liars.. maybe if we didn't, they wouldn't? Why enable bad behaviour with our custom?
The arguement is a moot point, especially if there was only ever going to be the one model and one model alone. Im getting an A81E and im certain that they will replace it with an upgraded model sooner than later. Its like all consumer goods, they get updated, changed etc etc. I have a "brand name" desktop and laptop that no longer gets "official support", why cause they stopped making that model, upgraded, built a new model and charged more $$ for it. Is the way it goes in a commercial world.Cant really see the point of "name calling or taking it personally" its just a couple of $$ worth or stuff that we will, break, replace or loose eventually.Peace all
taking it personally? yes absolutely - I always take being lied to personally, and as for name calling - if, as they say, the cap fits... What I am gathering from here is that fanboys like being shafted and being used as crash test dummies by companies who take their money and run? This isn't sour grapes from me as an older model gives way to the new. It's total disgust that a unit does not do a fraction of what was claimed when I parted with my money, and then they expect me to buy another to get what I have already paid for???I see Walmart is selling something very like the WITs (identical?) so that sorts that... a company with a very poor reputation selling a product from a manufacturer with a worse one.. perfect!

@ nemesis101I like you ,I think most ppl have lost the art of intelligent debate you state you case very well and I would take comfort in the fact that you may have turned some ppl off to buying this device and that is what you intended. As far as Wal-mart is concerned that is a whole other barrel of monkeys . My fiance won't shop there to save her life, I on the other hand love it and continue to shop at the WM.
While I do not condone the business practices some of these manufactures use, I do understand it. Most are fairly small companies with limited resources. Small can be good because it allows them to move faster than the huge HPs and Dells of the manufacturing world. Those products may not be as polished as they do not have the R&D budgets of the big boys. When they are very small they may not be able to develop multiple products at one time. If they want to de-bug their new product they may have to move their resources away from old product. It is unfortunate for those who purchased the old product, but it is almost unavoidable. Thus are the dangers of riding the bleeding edge of technology. You are almost guaranteed to be left with an orphaned product. Just be glad it isn't something expensive like an HD-DVD player.
