unless windows 8 is open source, I don't think it will be able to compete in low end market.

how will those small tablet companies gonna come up with the money to buy the license fee windows 8 and still fork out relatively low priced tablets? not to mention windows 8 not being open source will make it harder for small scale developers to risk the investment.
if you are only going to pay less than 300 for tablet, chances are it's going to use android instead of windows 8
