I think the price is attracting people. But I think your right, I would warn people to stay clear of any chinese netbooks/tablets. It's just like the 7" netbooks of a year ago. Many people bought them hoping to mod them, but all these devices may as well be locked down if the chinese companies will not give out documentation on the chips inside them. It is close to impossible to mod them without documentation of the cpu/lcd controller/dsp etc. At this point im only looking at tablets that have documented cpus with a linux port. I have seen some tablets using samsung parts, which are much easier to mod.If we were able to repurpose these devices they would be a steal, but as it stands now they we are stuck with terrible service and no documentation.

Maybe they are all built in china, but at least you can ask intel, samsung, etc.. for programming information for their cpu's and they will gladly give them to you because they understand that will sell more units. trying to get programming info for netbooks/tablets from with cpu's from chinese companies is like pulling teeth. I would like to install linux, or perhaps program some music/synth apps for the tablet to make it like a lemur. no need to get defensive, as long as people understand if you buy these things you are stuck with the os they give you, unoptimized or not. and will not be able to reprogram them or hack new software on them, then go for it. if your looking to do more interesting things you wont be able to without documentation.so if your happy with the device and software out of the box, then great, but dont buy them hoping to mod because you will be dissapointed as i am.and i would love to be proven wrong with these companies releasing programming information!but i wont hold my breath, after a bunch of have begged VIA for about a year for programming docs to write new software for our netbooks i will never buy another VIA part again. is it wrong to want to develop softare for the device we bought? My arm assembly is pretty good and im sure i can optimize it alot more then it is out of the box...and im not saying these arent a good deal, and if your not the programming type and dont want linux or anything, and just want a book reader/web browser and are satified with them then great! just dotn hope to write any low level software.
