For those living in US, why consider aPad instead of other available tablet?I've seen this Pandigital E-Reader, which is basically an android tablet, with B&N access. And only costs $199 plus 1yr warranty.I'm just curious why choosing aPad, because of its rockchip processor??If I'm living in US, I will definitely go for this reader, as from the screen, it seems the OS are more fine tuned, and with 1yr warranty. Better tech. support I suppose.Product Info:http://pandigital.net/default.asp?PageID=258&Preview=TrueNews coverage:http://besttabletreview.com/pandigital-novel-color-android-ereader-for-200/http://www.itworld.com/personal-tech/108917/pandigitals-novel-inexpensive-android-tablet-disguised-e-reader

Many of the other tablets are not available yet. I also believe that many people here want to root and mod their equipment and since that involves risk, they want it to be as functional - yet inexpensive as possible. The Pandigital Novel is not available yet, its primarily an ebook reader that will have Android tacked on later. Also, I don't believe that the Novel has a touch screen. You can get an Apad for as little as $129 with free shipping.

i think it's an android tablet with ebook function (maybe an app with a widget on homescreen).and it positioned itself as ebook reader to avoid direct competition with iPad.from the news, it seems no Android Market built-in nor the Google Apps (gmail/maps/etc), but I think it's easy to overcome, just like those Archos devices.I was attracted by the OS, and I think it's more fine tune and mature, comparing with the current aPad OS builds.

I have been looking for information on this the Pandigital Novel and it is on sale at JcPenneys online only. http://www5.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?GrpTyp=PRD&ItemID=1925321&Ntt=novel&hdnOnGo=true&Ne=4+877+878+5+961+6+29+3+598+11+15+12+506+10+23+585+596+1031+8+18+904+903+840+969+949+833&submit%20search.y=5&SearchString=novel&submit%20search.x=32&N=4294959029&Nao=0&SO=0&PSO=0&CmCatId=searchresultsStill not much info on other stats. What they do say is it has 1gb internal memory to store media and as SD slot for an SD card up to 32gb. It says you can surf the web but says nothing of the resources that help you go about this like RAM. Many of the articles also say you can install applications but do not mention where you would acquire these with no mention of any Android Market connectivity. Main question that never is answered is which Android firmware. And strange it has an audio 2.5 connection. Also no mention of typle of touch screen. This is on JcPenneys website yet I get more information from Chinese websites. Anyone else have been looking at this? It does sound interesting I wouldn't mind getting one but I want to know more.

I like the idea of the irobot/apad, because its like the wild west, lots of opportunities and lots of risk.

With Apple you are stuck with whatever they want you give you.Apple has no USB ports. Before OS 4, its completely single-tasking. Very annoying to want to browse and do anything else at the same time. OS 4.0 is supposed to fix this up to a point. You are stuck with Itunes. If you are Linux user - you are tough out of luck. Its Apple. Build quality might be better, but you have a little bit of Steve Jobs in every box....ewwww.I have been an Apple Developer. I have decided that I can no longer stomach nor support their Draconian policies towards developers and customers.

Freedom is very important to me.I sometimes like to take a peek outside of that fenced in garden of bliss. Also the cheapest iPad costs 3 times as much as the aPad and can do a lot less.
DSF767 is right, the button is a little different. I have been going on the exact text description. At least this one is a 600MHz RockChip, 1.3 MP camera and 3000mAH battery. What is intriguing is the mention of 256MB of RAM.I know nothing of the reliability of the source.
Pioneer Computers Australia have officially released the technical specifications of their new Dreambook ePad 7. This 7-inch tablet offers a 800 x 480 touchscreen display and is powered by a 533MHz processor. We?d have loved to see a 1Ghz processor in here. There is 256MB RAM coupled with a 2GB SSD for internal storage. Of course, you can upgrade via MicroSD to 32GB. To keep costs down, the GPS and Bluetooth are optional, as is the 3G connectivity. WiFi comes as standard, however. Other hardware specifications include a 1.3-megapixel camera, 2.0 USB port and a 2400mAh battery. All of this will run on Android 1.6 (!) and the DreamBook ePad 7 will go on sale for around $199. Release date, unconfirmed.533MHz indicates that it is using the VIA CPU. I would steer clear.

I think the price is attracting people. But I think your right, I would warn people to stay clear of any chinese netbooks/tablets. It's just like the 7" netbooks of a year ago. Many people bought them hoping to mod them, but all these devices may as well be locked down if the chinese companies will not give out documentation on the chips inside them. It is close to impossible to mod them without documentation of the cpu/lcd controller/dsp etc. At this point im only looking at tablets that have documented cpus with a linux port. I have seen some tablets using samsung parts, which are much easier to mod.If we were able to repurpose these devices they would be a steal, but as it stands now they we are stuck with terrible service and no documentation.

I can get horrible service from Dell, HP, Apple and Sony too unless i'm willing to pay a premium. The point to this website and these tablets are they are 1/3 to 1/2 the price of an Apple Ipad.

Maybe they are all built in china, but at least you can ask intel, samsung, etc.. for programming information for their cpu's and they will gladly give them to you because they understand that will sell more units. trying to get programming info for netbooks/tablets from with cpu's from chinese companies is like pulling teeth. I would like to install linux, or perhaps program some music/synth apps for the tablet to make it like a lemur. no need to get defensive, as long as people understand if you buy these things you are stuck with the os they give you, unoptimized or not. and will not be able to reprogram them or hack new software on them, then go for it. if your looking to do more interesting things you wont be able to without documentation.so if your happy with the device and software out of the box, then great, but dont buy them hoping to mod because you will be dissapointed as i am.and i would love to be proven wrong with these companies releasing programming information!but i wont hold my breath, after a bunch of have begged VIA for about a year for programming docs to write new software for our netbooks i will never buy another VIA part again. is it wrong to want to develop softare for the device we bought? My arm assembly is pretty good and im sure i can optimize it alot more then it is out of the box...and im not saying these arent a good deal, and if your not the programming type and dont want linux or anything, and just want a book reader/web browser and are satified with them then great! just dotn hope to write any low level software.
