I tried some mkv files but it refuses to play. As copying takes quite a while I didn't try many formats.
Which formats are supported?
Aren't there any better video players?

I use mx video player on the android side and have never had an issue with file formats

another alternative is dice player

For WebOS use Kalemsoft media player, plays all formats and supports internal and external subtitles, also supports file size of 4GB, for Android use dice or Mx videoplayer.
