In the Android Phone root world there is a recovery mode you go into....This whole script directory on the card is a little inconvenient...Cyanomod has a Power off option that goes into recovery mode.

i am infact working on this, so far i have custom script, im not going too release it untill its properly tested (not somthing you want too get wrong)but it should support-backup/restore-flashing of custom ZIP file ROM-data wipe- Possibly an ext partition option, not done this yet though.from there it wouldnt be too hard to make a "restart into recover" type thing going on, but again without the device on hand i really couldnt say. it is possible though.

recovery is a bit trick i think because of the way the bootloader and such is structure and how the device loads the kernel

[quote author=sudermatt link=topic=17.msg106#msg106 date=1273779058]do you have a droid phone?[/quote]i got the milestone, and on this we cannot do any boot.img yet, as they are signed.but they invented a custom-bootloader, which opens a menu similar to the custom recoveries seen on HTC phones.this can probably be used here too, so someone should grab that binary and test it.problem is i dont recall the name of the pack, but its probably easy to find on modmymoto.com or another board for motorola phones.
