Voyo A15 Inspiration 1.0 problems

7772 Views 23 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  retorappa
Hi. I have installed Inspiration 1.0 on my A15.

Since I got the A15, the battery often runs down even when the screen is off (tablet gets hot when off).

I have a Sandisk Ultra 64GB mSDXC UHS-1 card in it, exFAT format. When it is in the tablet, the internal SD card does not mount after a reboot. I have to unmount the external card, mount the internal SD and then mount the external SD. After that, both internal and external SD appear to work OK.

Bluetooth keyboards still not working with any version of the firmware. BT audio works fine.

Wondering if anyone else has run into these problems and have any solutions.

Thanks,

C

Well, it seems that formatting the external SD card in NTFS solves that problem. Obviously the A15 doesn't like exFAT on that card...

Good to know

I notice a poor battery life with all the roms, it's around 4 hours without games. I discovered that the battery is not discharged above the common value ( 3.5v) but at 3.7v , it means we can get 3 extra hours at least , if we can tweak the kernel.
I made some ugly tests with hex editor and the result is not too bad, the battery life is now around 8 hours

If someone is interested i can post the tweaked kernel, as usual , Use it at your own risk !

Sounds very interesting, please post your changes / the tweaked kernel!
Hi,
This is the modify kernel , you need to unzip it and put it in Cyanogen ROM zip.

The battery calibration is not perfect, I will post an update tomorrow.

Cheers

Thank you! Can you please explain on what to search in a hex-editor?

First , the kernel file need to be gunzipped, for that we need to find 1F 8b gzip header and remove the stuff before, you can now gunzipped
Next , you have the raw kernel file , you must search integer occurence for low and high battery level ( from /sys/class/power_supply/samsung-battery/)
The file /proc/kallsyms ca be useful to find symbols order.

I think the next step will be the undervolting by tweaking CPU voltage table inside the kernel.
It's tedious because we don't have the kernel source

I flashed you kernel yesterday and I think the battery life increased. But maybe this was a kind of self-deception.
Awaiting your new version.

Hi,
I think it's really working, because the charge time has increased too ( 7 hours !)

Here is the new kernel with improved calibration.

Thanks, I just flashed it. Lets see what happens.

Can you post the values you changed?

Edit: One first note - after flashing and with about 75% battery I connect the AC-adapter and after 1-2 hours the green led lights. But battery shows only 95%. Might be a calibration issue, I will check this after several recharges.

PS: Maybe it would be useful if you open a new thread for this.
Occip, I can confirm both increase of battery life and load time after some days of testing. In addition I had no unnormal issues with voltages below 3.7V up to now.

So it might be an interesting question why Voyo / Urbetter made this "modification".
Hi

Glad to hear that !

The limitation from voyo certainly comes from bad power management design. I notice that the screen is flickering when the CPU load is high. I think the battery has a big internal resistor. The voltage drops (-0.3v) a lot when the current is too high and the internal resistance is increased when the voltage goes too low.

I will continue to improve the battery "calibration", on my tablet it drops from 100% to 97 % within 5 minutes.

Hey Occip, your kernel mod did get my attention. I flashed my voyo with the latest cyanogenmod and your kernel and, so far so good. My battery doesn't charge fully though. I get 90% at best. Maybe a battery calibration app could do the trick. I'll report back my results in a few days.

Retorappa, what kind of increase in battery life do you get?
The battery lasts longer.
It is difficult for me to say how much longer. In another forum a user reported double lifetime.

Well, my first test gave about 5.5 hours which is much better than the average of 2.5 - 3.0 hours I was getting before the mod. And this was with 30% brightness. The claim of a doubled battery life seems true.

I must congratulate occip for this amazing mod.

On another note, I'm also impressed by this cyanogenmod. Even if I got a few reboots while reading pdfs, I must say this rom is quite good and recommand it to everyone.
Do you use the TabletUI-Patch? I did it for a day and it made the tablet very unstable, rebooting several times or hanging after some taps on the back-button.

Btw., my max. shown battery capacity after one week is 97%. At 95% the green led lights. But I think this is a cosmetical problem only.

I didnt use the tabletUI-Patch. I was able to charge the tablet fully once, after 12 hours. The discharge is also kind of erratic.
Hi all,
I saw some people talking about cyanogen mod for our tablet. Where I can get that ROM? Is it better than inspiration? Thanks in advance.

There is a CM-thread here with links to htcmania. Is it a tapatalk-problem to find it?

The new CM 10.2 is better than Inspiration, I think, especially when used with this Kernel-Mod. At htcmania you will find a link to download CM 10.2 with mod included.
Thanks retorappa for the reply. I didn't know that cyanogen mod exist for our tablet.
How to put this mod by occip in the cyanogen mod? Or is it already in included in the rom as you mentioned? BTW can you direct me to that thread of cyanogen mod. I shall be thankful.
