i have got the same tablet and i have been experimenting with it. i did have android 1.6 Donut running on it by backing up the restore partition and then using the kernel.img and boot.img and the bootloader from it, and then using the system.img and recovery.img from the archos DonutBeta1 but i deleted the image accidentally and now the tablet will not boot, and as i deleted the back up image i cannot flash it with the original firmware. so if anyone backs up the firmware i would be grateful for a link, or if anyone would like to make a backup i will guide them through the procedure. if someone dose this it means that we will be able to get android 1.6 or maybe even 2.1 running on it and fix my tablet at the same time
View Quest SLATE5-2G (rk28board), Android 1.5

I recently acquired a View Quest SLATE5-2GB. Seems to be quite a nice slate, screen is very bright and readable, touchscreen is resistive but quite reliable even with the screen protector on, the back is made of aluminium, it charges over USB - all in all, it ticks most of the boxes. Except it's running Android 1.5.
Is there a common upgrade procedure and ROM for rk28board based slates? I really want to update this to at least Android 1.6, since that gets me most of the useful features (not too concerned about upgrading past 1.6).

I have a couple of these which I picked up on the cheap. They are not too bad but Android 1.5 is pretty useless. Has anyone figured out how to create a custom rom with a newer firmware? I don't understand why view quest went with 1.5, is it capable of running anything more intensive?
are you tried to flash on the device version 2.x?
