Well I guess my MID is an Eken M003 based from the info on the packaging :The English user manual states it's an "M70003 series"The back of the MID states " VIA ARM926 "Boot up shows " Android 1.7.2 "Mainly bought it for playing videos, but most videos I've tried fail to play (black screen but sound is fine).Installed mVideoPlayer, but the results are the same. How can I get this thing to play videos properly ?

You'll need to convert them to a format which is compatible with the device. Download the video convert that's in the downloads section of the site (under tested-apps|slatedroid video app). I've been successful using the following settings:Output Format: 3gpCodec: MPEG-4Size: 352x288Aspect: not really figured out which is best tried 4x3 and 5x4. 5x4 cut off some of the video, but didn't look as stretched.FPS: 24Bitrate: 400 kbpsA 90 minute move takes up about 280MB.

3GP ? You've got to be kidding, I had a mobile phone years ago that played higher quality (bit rate/res) than this pile of rubbish. In todays age of HD video, having to convert to a low quality format just to use a 7" MID is a joke.Clearly, this MID is a fake and does not have the power to play higher quality video. How can I find out the exact spec of my MID ?

The settings I listed are the ones that have worked for me, there may be other, better quality codec's it can use, but I have had any luck with anything else. The APAD/MOONSE has much better specs, it's got a 600Mhz CPU with a 500Mhz DSP dedicated to HD playback, but the lowly EKEN can't handle HD content.

Most phones use Mpeg2 for video and AMR for audio at low bitrates (good for small screens), hence the misconception that 3GP are poor quality formats.

No DSP, slow cpu, Android overhead means no video.Even my 6 years old Ipaq plays divx movies, but this tablet is not fit for that.
