Upgrading internal micro-SD

The internal card is in standard FAT32 format. Most cards come pre-formatted that way. When you open the back, be patient it takes some force to overcome the double sided tape, it creaks when it breaks the tapes hold... take the original card to your desktop and read it into a folder there. Then copy the same stuff onto the new card, insert the new card and close the case. The hard part for me was breaking the hold of the tape, once I got the crack wide enough, I used a small screw driver to wedge it on each side until I heard the "crack". After the tape breaks its hold, just lift it off. See the pictures from "lawman" in a different thread here, they helped me a lot.

Thanks for the info. FAT32 makes it easy. I have already got the back open. Any idea what is the max. size u-SD card it will accept?

I put in an 8gb, it was the biggest at my local store. I think some folks have used 16gb, but I don't think that is really useful, as the device seems to use the external card for most everything when it is inserted. So I would put a 32gb in the external slot, and maybe 4gb or 8gb in the internal slot... since it will mainly be used for installing apps, as far as I can tell.

External SD card is more used for installing apps, storing your .epubs or other books and storing media. The actual internal memory of the pandigital can only be accessed by a file manager within the Novel or perhaps by root.

I have inserted a 8 gb sd card into the PD and it is recognized by my laptop but I am continuing to get a notification message of "Low on space Device storage space is getting low". What does this message mean and how can I eliminate the message. Thanks for your help.

That's the main memory on the device where it stores the /system and /data. Until we get 2.2 on the PDN so we can install APPS on the SD card(s), we will be getting that message till the end of time. With everything stock and with GE Pack, I had around 100megs left on my PDN, so that tells you how little space we have to work with for now.

Which part of the back comes off.. the top or bottom? For replacing the internal SD card that is.

I replaced my internal 1GB with a Class 4 4GB card. I have not noticed any perceivable performance increase and the card was just sitting in my crappy cell phone anyway.

Here is what I found after getting the back off and pulling the stock 1gb card, the PDN still run without it. Apparently, there is another 1gb of memory somewhere inside the machine where the root files are stored and run from. I'm not even sure why they even have it in. It was only being used as storage for the book reader.>>>bryan_d you have more internal storage for books.. about it. Prolly won't see any real performance difference other than book load times.

People have been successfully removing PDN-native apps they don't use to free up more space. I forget now which thread it's mentioned in, but it might help.
