There are several threads no this subject Joe, the chargers sent with the units tend to be pretty bad. I ended up buying a universal charger from Radio Shack, that cna be adapted from 3v to 12v (need to set it to 9v) and bought the "B" type tip for the charging plug. No more charging issues

They were having a special this week, not sure how long it will last, but the tip was free since I bought the charger, came out to about $20.
