Good point. Will do.
With wget I have never got a bad download. In a zip file too if it can unzip with out a error that can say it's good.

I did the md5sum any way on mine. Here is how on the command line:

[email protected]:~/USB-to-Ethernet# ls
HG20F9-master master.zip
[email protected]:~/USB-to-Ethernet# md5sum master.zip

[email protected]:~/USB-to-Ethernet# cd HG20F9-master/

Now it works! Thanks a lot
I am a noob in Linux, but have purchased an Imito MX1 with a HG20F9 dongle. Unfortunatly I am not able to install the driver. Do I need root? or can someone make a apk file to make a simple install possible of the driver?

Thank you and kind Regards,

Marcel

This driver is for ubuntu 12.10 (with kernel compiled by AndrewDB). But if the version of your android linux kernel is the same (3.0.8+), you can copy it (with su) to android and it should work. Otherwise you need to compile it yourself, which would be much harder for a newbie linux user.

For how to add the kernel to android, search in this forum.

Thank you for your answer. Will try to figure out all this new stuff ;-)

Kernel is the same I have read. And have root access. Just one question before I proceed:

Do you need to create the full path: /lib/modules/3.0.8+/kernel/driver/net/usb/ ?

because it doesn't excist. Lib has only modules directory.

Thanks in advance

Put the file HG20F9.ko under /system/lib/modules/.

Okay. when I depmod I get an error:

chdir(3.0.8+): No such file or directory

I tried to mkdir the whole path:

/lib/modules/3.0.8+/kernel/driver/net/usb/

and put the file HG20F9.ko into usb

depmod doens't give an error, modprobe does

/system/lib/modules/3.0.8+/kernel/driver/net/usb # depmod -a
/system/lib/modules/3.0.8+/kernel/driver/net/usb # modprobe HG20F9
modprobe: 'kernel/driver/net/usb/HG20F9.ko': Device or resource busy
/system/lib/modules/3.0.8+/kernel/driver/net/usb #

Still no luck

Any suggestions?

Thnx and kind Regards,

Marcel

In my opinion it means the driver is already recognized by android. You might want to try the following two different ways:

1. With dongle unplugged, try modprobe, and then plug it in.
2. Reboot your android with dongle unplugged, after reboot, plug it in.

And maybe it even works right after you reboot.

Good luck.

linuxerwang:

thank you very much for your help. But I can't get to work. I'll just wait for another solution to have LAN instead of wifi. This is far beyond me at the moment ;-)

Kind Regards

Hi!

I have Minix NEO G4 mini PC and i tried to use your compiled binary. Insmod says:

Code:
1|[email protected]:/mnt/sdcard/4 # insmod HG20F9.ko<br />
insmod: init_module 'HG20F9.ko' failed (Device or resource busy)
Looking in dmesg explains:

Code:
<3>[ 849.030559] Error: Driver 'asix' is already registered, aborting...<br />
Hm.. - if it says "driver already loaded" - why my USB ethernet dongle does not work?

It seems to be loaded during boot:

Code:
<6>[ 0.890071] usbcore: registered new interface driver asix
If HG20F9.ko will have different module name - "asix2" for example - will it load?

Run "rmmod asix" and then "insmod HG20F9.ko".

Yeah, already tried this:

Code:
[email protected]:/ # rmmod asix<br />
rmmod: delete_module 'asix' failed (errno 2)
And lsmod says that there is no module "asix":

Code:
255|[email protected]:/ # lsmod<br />
wlan 856 0 - Live 0xbf12d000<br />
virtual_keyboard 819 0 - Live 0xbf129000<br />

Maybe it's because this driver in hard-compiled with kernel?

What's your kernel version?

$ uname -a

This driver binary is for picuntu 0.3 pre alfa kernel. You need to compile it yourself if it's other kernel version.

Hi,

How can I compile this driver for my tablet U30GT with JB 4.1.1 and kernel 3.0.8+?
I try the driver in this topic but don't work.

I finally received HG20F9 dongle and it works perfectly with driver on mk808 picuntu rc2. There is one problem however that when I try to stop or restart network via "service networking stop" it freezes and I have to cut power and restart the system.
If I try "reboot" command it also hangs (same reason).

dm9601(USB 1.1) dongle works ok and can be stopped sucessfully.

Does anyone have similar problems?

I did some further testing and find out the following. Somehow the driver cannot be successfully stopped or unloaded. If i try rmmod hg20f9.ko it hangs. However if I pull usb dongle out of usb port then i can succesfully reboot. I can also pull-out and plug-in dongle and everything works. but as soon as rmmod or reboot is called it hangs.

I use UG-802 with Picuntu 2.2 (as server) with HG20F9.ko module installed and running very well (10-11 Mega Bytes/second file transferring)!

I am thinking of upgrading the RC 2.2 kernel to the one RC3.0.

I would like to ask: Does this HG20F9.ko module work on RC3 kernel ?

Thanks
