I have put together some firmware update patches that can be used to modify and unlock Novels without the need for a Computer.

The following Patches work with all firmware versions up to and including 11_19. They DO NOT Work with the firmwares released in January.:

1) This update installs 91PandaHome 1.95 and AppsInstalller into the /system/app location. I have chosen this location to avoid erasing and allow for future flashing of the userdata.img /data.

2) This update installs the volume key modification.
LINK:http://www.timthegeek.net/nchntr/files/volkey_mod_update.zip

3) This update installs root access. This correctly installs /system/bin/su and modifies permissions. I will also include jackpal Better Terminal in the APK folder, which can be installed from SDCARD.

The following Patches work with the OEM 11_19 firmware version:

How to use the firmware update patches.

First you must remove all of the .zip files from the SDCARD in your Novel. You can only have one update zip file on the SDCARD at a time!!
Next you must unzip the update file you downloaded above to somewhere accessible on your computer.
The zip file above contains an firmware update patch zip file, the name will end with: _update_PD_INX7E_ENG_6410POP.zip.
This file must be placed on the SDCARD you will be using in your Novel.
Now the process is the same as flashing firmware.

They will NOT erase /system, they will not erase /data they will leave your current file system in tact.

You must apply these patches one at a time with a reboot between flashing.
You can only have one zip file on the SDCARD at a time!!
You may need to clear the dalvik-cache in some circumstances.

EDIT: Repacked files with some unnecessary files removed. (Thanks clockworx)

EDIT: These update files will only work with the White Pandigital Novel.

EDIT: Added 7_24 rotation fix. (Thanks clockworx)

EDIT: Added 8_06/8_20 rotation fix. (Thanks clockworx)

EDIT: All of these update patches are for OEM firmware and are not to be used with custom firmware releases.

EDIT: Added 9_23 firmware updates (resorted)

EDIT: Added 7_24 & 9_23 build.prop sdk=7 updates

EDIT: Added 11_19 Notification Bar Enable

I'm trying to build a set of tools for the people out there that cannot use ABD for some reason or another. The dalvik-cache will only need to be updated when the /data are is modified. Currently noneof the above packages modify the /data. Later tonite I intend to add the adhoc enable patch which will touch the /data area. I will look for a built-in solution to clearing the dalvik-cache. Perhaps my mentioningof the dalvic-cache was pre-mature at this juncture.

If someone were to do an OEM Firmware flash update, which - if not all - of these would have to be re-applied? In a similar vein, what files (system.img? user.data?) would you want to take out of a stock FW flash in order not to destroy these mods?(Sorry for asking what is probably obvious once I open up the files, but I'm not at a place where I can DL right now.)I ask cuz I'll probably want to point the Wiki here once you've got the whole package together.

These mods reside in the /system area, thus any firmwareflash that replaces the /system will replace these updates. The notification bar mod is 7_24 specific and thus should only be applied to a 7_24 system. These updates are meant to be flashed AFTER an OEM firmware flash or a custom firmware flash. These update can be combined into one patch if requested.

My personal opinion is that you may as well add the volume key modification to the panda home install. Having an alternate launcher installed w/o the volume key hack is practically useless.

Make sense, but I am trying to keep it modular and will be releasing alternate home updates (launcher.apk, ADW, launcher pro, etc) I might integrate the volkey mod into each one later.

Just curiousity, why are you including all the extra stuff with your zips? All you really need is updater-binary, updater-script, and then whatever extra stuff in /system. I took a peek at your root installer, and you have the kernel/logo/bootloader in there. Also, you're copying over a hacked build.prop, which I don't think is needed either, except for GE. Neither is fuse, which is both there in terms of the binary and is also in your script.

I am building them from a template, it was easier for me to keep them. Also I was under the impression that build.prop needed to be there to load the keys, when not actually flashing the system.img. I'll slim them out a little later. Also if it is needed i'll use the correct build.prop.

One of the Apps2SD solutions I was tinkering with would only install with the ro.build.version.sdk=7. That solution didnt pan out tho.

Looks like clockwork's rotation fix (and evidently the DVM hack it breaks) are next on your hit list. (As if you really needed anyone to give you more projects.)Have you updated the Wiki with any of this? I looked but didn't see any of these one-shot mods. I'll try and link this up tomorrow if you'd like.

I had just posted in the 270 thread, but there's no reason for this to break DVM (and no reason for it to be fixed by re-applying).

Naw, I should have but haven't nchntrman=slacker :DI'm learnin the repository setup right now. Then i'm going to get backups working (to be run on the novel), I want it to be able to build restore firmwares also. After that I think i am going to build a pre-modded system image, all done the solid way with ADB. I am not 100% satisfied with how the flashable updates handle permissions thus I feel an updated system.img with all the mods would be the next better option. Any suggestions as to what to include?Volkey modPandahomeAptoide InstallerNotification Bar fixRootBusyboxbackup utils (mkfs.yaffs2 and some scripts)I may include a few additional apps installed in system/appSmartBarAdvancedTaskManager(those are the only ones I can think of that will/do run all the time, as apps in /system run at startup, i believe)Maybe add the widgets too. I will have to test as not all apks will run correctly from /system (jackpal.terminal is one that comes to mind)As always Input is accepted and appreciated. Can you think of any ADB required mods that you want?

I tried the first patch and saw a quick "Invalid patch..." message on the screen before my Novel started its normal boot. Did I do something wrong or are these not for the black model?Thanks!- Russell1) This update installs 91PandaHome 1.95 and AppsInstalller into the /system/app location. I have chosen this location to avoid erasing and allow for future flashing of the userdata.img /data.LINK:http://www.timthegeek.net/nchntr/files/pandahome_appsinstaller_update.zip
