I've recently tested a Hannspad 1653 (unmodified stock version operating system) and it generally performed well, except some random freezing problems: sometimes only the touchscreen stops responding (home, power and other buttons react) and sometimes the tablet is simply frozen. I am trying to figure out if this a software or hardware problem, because if this is software, I can try to replace the ROM. Anybody has encountered similar problems? Did a ROM upgrade fixed the problems?

Same issue here !!!!

I've had my hannspad since Saturday and its slightly annoying. I've been reading on here that its a software issue due to bad or poor optimization on hannspree's part. Its a shame as the device has great potential.
I'm now looking to install hannstitan as it seems to be the most stable but I'm a little apprehensive as there is a risk of bricking my new hannspad but most on here say the risk is worth it as it opens up the hannspad to its full potential.

I think ill do it soon but only once I'm totally sick of the stock Rom.

Having same issues last night on my 1 day old Hannspad - Update was installed.

I'm not sure what do you mean by a soft reboot. When the tablet stops responding, its operating system is blocked, so you have to use low level power functions, triggered by tablet's buttons. When the tablet frezees, I long press the power button and usually it turns down. There is also a small reset button, that can be pressed with a pen peak.

Anyway, there is a BIG question how did they manage to do from Linux, the most stable operating system, a buggy and problematic software!!! I'm planning to install a new ROM, but when I'll have more spare time.

I was also experiencing the same problem with my Hannspad @ stock Rom. Totally freezes and I have to reboot or reset the device. Sometimes all the apps where removed. Don`t know what causes this. I almost returned it to the store.

Then I found this Site and read a few topics. Changed my Hannspad to GtabComb 3.3 in only a few min.
I realy like it now, only waiting on the hardware acceleration.

I definitely think the random freezes are a software thing, I have no more problems anymore.

I had the same issues. seemed to happen more often when I was using applications from the stock market app.

anyway, I just flashed it with Vegan-Tab Gingerbread edition rom and now no more random crashes, plus as an added bonus.. access to android market.

I'm still with the original ROM (mostly because I gave him the tablet to my wife ...)

At first, it works very badly (crash, the screen stopped responding, etc ...). Then I realized it was a problem of memory consuming applications and that in low memory (applications running in the background) the system freeze ....( especially with Opera Mobile)

So I looked to system memory apps (not Task managers, which kill a process and get back in, is back there), and now I have one, which is Memory Booster (Accelerator memory), which automatically frees memory from time to time (user definable 10 min to X min) and to define priority programs do not close the automatic cleaning.

To free memory manually, use the Quick System Info Pro, which is installed in the notification bar, only you must click on the graphic memory and close a few applications.

Since then, not a single crash or slow down and the tablet is great ... (but will someday install a cooked rom, I promise!)

Tried to install that memory booster, but when starting the program, it crashed. can you provide a link to a working version?

I have the same problem. If the memory is the point using Advanced Task Manager (free) I could solve.
I have activated a regular task-kill every 10 minutes I`ll write you back the result of this test

The stock rom is buggy, I used to tried that but for some application, it would cause it random freeze, so I installed cyanogenmod 7, it works without problem now.

Try to install some optimize tool like process killer and cache cleaner, some app you download may have some dirty code in it, it is not a really faulty to rom, eg some application may request GPS or Camera which doesn't exists on the tablet, and if those errors didn't handle properly, you tablet will get freeze randomly.

I strongly recommend cyanogenmod 7

Does this rom have complete functionality? I see other people talking about problems as the lack of hardware acceleration on custom roms.

EDITED
It looks like Froyo/Gingerbread based roms do have hardware acceleration (see Dolphine guide about installing a custom rom). More, ab73 (one of the great fellows that optimize kernel for hannspad) is using cyanogenmod 7 for tests (see his post in http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/21890-ab-kernel-mod/ from 03 September 2011 - 02:22 PM). From this point, cyanogenmod 7 really looks like the best choice for Hannspad.

But there are also other opinions. One might consider instead Hannstitan, that seems to perform the fastest of all, as hardware acceleration is best supported. There are some disparate topics around here: http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/21843-what-are-my-options-custom-rom/ (not so illuminating) or http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/22316-which-rom-is-right-for-you/ (obviously incomplete) that try to discuss the problem. I think that we should start a clean, new topic on this, where all the available choices for roms are listed, along with their advantages and disadvantages. A task for an advanced member, that had tested and has a good view of this.

testing gtabcomb now, installed just as described in Dolphine tutorial. aside from graphics intensive games such as racing, that don't work, the tablet works ok. even the touch is now better.

Actually have similiar regular freezes when booting up. My stock-rom-pad nearly always freezes during the network finding process right after booting up (not when booting from sleep mode).
Was investigating and it seems, that it freezes as soon as openfeint kicks in and tries to connect to the net before the network connection could be established.
btw... as I do not have the market on my stock-rom, can anyone maybe post the free tool "closefeint" (https://market.android.com/details?id=benor.closeFeint) would like to try it on the hannspad...
Else.. does anyone know a manual way to disable openfeint for good?

on vegan tab those freezing problems are very rare. be aware that cwm 4.x.x causes brick, use cwm 2.x.x prior to install a custom rom.
