I have everything pretty nearly perfect with my PDN except for a true sleep mode. I have not idea how to keep it in sleep. If I force sleep it with the power slide it goes into sleep but sneakily wakes up with out the lamp on so you think PDN is sleeping but it's not. Has anyone found a way to keep in asleep till I purposefully wake it with the power slide button?

There are some who have some tricks that seem to make theirs stay in deep sleep. They most often involve fixing something that Google Experience broke, but I don't have GE & can't deep sleep. All current "fixes" for deep sleep have not worked for me. It is one of those issues that has been so wrapped up in all the hacks, that it is difficult to know what is waking it up. search for posts by Cosmos. He was leading an effort to find a fix, but haven't heard anything recently. He may have fixed his with a procedure that didn't work for me. I have sort of lost interest, as I was sort of lost in the dust of those who have gone on to modify their Novels more than I have. Right now I use Launcher Pro & have the notification bar active. Other than a bunch of new apps. No GE, Market etc.Cheers, kev

Thanks bugeyed although your answer is the one I was most concern about hearing Im glad someone said it and I dont have to guess because I have scoured these threads and as there are many threads/posts on this not one has an answer even the work arounds are guess work or some are just lucky as the PDN is very finicky I find. I pretty much was coming to your conclusion, but the Cosmo clue gives me hope! OK, Im on to find a way
Wish me luck!

I've had same experience.. tried most of the workarounds and some of my own.. they may work sometimes but then not..I have just resorted to turning it off when I am through and waiting for boot when I need it.Like you, for my uses, it is doing really well except for this one thing.. I am hopeful that as the experts dig around, they will eventually understand the sleep issue to the point that they can come up with a solution that works for everyone all the time.

What I would like to see is the PDN do a screen timeout where it turns off the backlight & stays like this for a user determined period & then go into deep sleep. This first "power saver" step would happen at a used determined time as well & a touch would wake it. The second "deep sleep" step would require a power slide to awaken. It's pretty basic laptop power saver functionality, but since we are dealing with a phone OS, maybe not so attainable.Cheers, kev

I asked for some to check theirs virgin units & got mixed results. At the time I was chasing the issue of PDN to go completely asleep 3 seconds after it goes into pwr saver mode (backlight off). I thought that it should stay in that state for a while before going into sleep, but that seems to be the way it works OOB, screen times out time set by user then 3 seconds later it goes to sleep. I got some conflicting responses, so didn't come to a conclusion. I will have to review the threads that ended when some either fixed theirs or lost interest. Search for "virgin" or posts by Cosmos & bugeyed as a start. Cheers, kev

Well I have been testing my sleep most of the day with variations and ideas from many here and it has been working with wifi on and off no bars lost after 3 hours of force sleep (sleep mode using the power slide not natural screen out). I followed Cosmos idea.1. Turned off Background Data2. Turned off My Location and Back up My Settings (turn off All of the Privacy Settings)Im using Launcherpro plus, I removed No Lock. Downside, Now I dont have that "live grace period" when it starts to go into sleep mode, where the lamp goes out first but keeps the PDN awake for about 30 seconds before complete sleep. And I have the issue of my wifi absolutely not wanting to connect about 65% of the time I would have to reboot if I want wifi reconnected but there is a catch to even this. I have notice but this is still in question/testing, if I want wifi to work after waking I need to wake the PDN in landscape mode this will be a bigger chance of the wifi reconnecting but if I wake the PDN up in portrait mode wifi is dead and wont even bother to scan, again still testing this theory but has anyone notice that certain features work or dont word due to which position they started or wake their PDN from? I myself am not a gracious morning person but I didnt know it was contagious :pDont miss data at all actually and if I need it for Market I will turn it on manually Im not in Market all that much. Also has anyone noticed that not all items are available to you through the PDN Market? I have noticed that on my phone I can scroll through selections but on my PDN there is only one page of selections there is never a scroll option. HHHHmmmmm.

Try Market in Landscape mode (yeah, I know). You can scroll then. It's like it's two different devices depending if it thinks it's sitting or standing.

Funny I read somewhere here about the PDN being haunted and I think I might have to agree....

I have stopped posting about deep sleep because I've got it working on my system. If you read thru my 3-4 long posts from several weeks ago..all the details are there.. But I'll summarize my experiences again.Currently I am running a clean install of the 8/06 firmware with GE installed, hacks for navigation bar, buttons, root, non-ugly market, and no wifi power saving made. I use Launcher pro and around 25 or so additional apps. Marketplace works. When I go to bed at night I let the device time out to go to sleep... If I use the switch something wakes it up around 1:00 am and leaves it in the very dim screen mode ( I believe this is due to GE). Letting it timeout at night lets it sleep all night without using any power... During the day I use the power switch mostly. Bur rarely go more than 3-4 hours without turning the PDN on. I usually turn wifi off when I am done but have noticed that the wifi turns itself off when going into deep sleep mode.I did reinstall the 7/24 code without GE and found the sleep problem still exists but is easier to solve...i.e. fewer problems to contend with. I have nothing running (to the best of my knowldge) that periodically checks something. I turn everything off that is not relevant to the PDN... Like haptic feedback, vibration, GPS etc. I leave it in plane mode also.. So some of these things may be causing the variations people see.I believe the key things are:1. Background data and auto sync off2. Use my location and back up my settings off3. I stop all running servicesFor GE users4. I delete the gls.db file5. I stop all tasks except smartbar and launcher pro 6. I check again with System panel lite and usually find updater running..I stop that alsoPut it to sleep..I suggest playing around with the 10-30 minute sleep steps. Once you get it sleeping that long you are almost home. Several people are unable to get that far... I have no idea why. I have found that if I go several days without rebooting my system it starts having sleep troubles. So at the first sign of not sleeping properly I reboot. And I do not use the reboot tool... but do a hard power off... Wait 30 seconds and then power on. I have to do some of the above stuff again... But then it sleeps beautifully again for several days..Good luck... I wish I could help more.. But this is still quite mysterious to me too. I have just managed to find a way thru the maze that works for me.

Well Cosmos, you deserve to have yours work properly considering how much work you put into finding a solution. I will probably start the process over again for mine, as I got frustrated & set it on a back burner. I will just have to find the time & discipline to stay with it. Thanks for your insight.Cheers, kev

Cosmos.. I am seriously considering going back to 7-24fw since I don't use market very often and the modified 7-24 fw that nchntrman did gives ready access to non-market app repositories..Do you recall what you had to do to make sleep work properly (or nearly so) in the 7-24 version?

I found that you can only get additional pages in Market while in landscape mode.

One thing I found on my in the last couple days is mine started coming on by itself again even thought I don't have GE installed. Couldn't figurre out why the I realized I had set up my email on the PDN email and now I have an Email service running whenever I boot. If I kill the service my device happily goes to sleep again.
