I just ordered my replacement Eken (I repeat: the screen is VERY touchy, get a cover for this thing) but want to use a different android logo for startup since I'm reflashing the thing the minute it gets here...I did a cursory search but didn't really find anything about logos for the bootup screen... I'd like to have the "Droid peeing on apple logo" that is used here and/or is on a vinyl sticker which is going on the back of my beast, but I'm too groggy/non-geeky to extract it from the html here. Anyone (Mike?) wanna post it or any other good suggestions up for me? I'm a horrid graphic designer...Thanks!
Did anyone replace the original yet?Must it be of the same size?
Someone did, and yes, it has to be the same size (original dimensions elude me, but you can get them off the android.bmp file in the ROM update package)
Here's the drill (I have not yet done this, but will be doing it very soon, possibly tomorrow if my replacement gets here...)1) When you install the new firmware, look in the main script directory and there's a bitmap image file called android.bmp.2) The bitmap's dimensions are 238 pixels wide X 228 pixels high.3) Simply make whatever logo you want to appear on booting the Eken have the same dimensions.I will see how the word "Android" under the logo is treated after I redo my own logo (since the word is in the original logo, and the logo fades but the word stays and acts as a sort of progress bar while the device boots... I don't know if it actually takes the bottom portion of whatever image file it boots with and messes with it or if it simply has a built-in "Android" progress bar thing. Since they're aligned perfectly, this could give the impression that the top portion fades away, when in reality the entire startup image just disappears).
Just did the flash "update" (which wasn't necessarily one since the newer versions of the tablet, at least the one I got just today, are running the same version and build as the flash update... but no other way to get custom boot logos otherwise
) and it worked.Simply rename a 239WX 228H pixel bmpg to "android.bmp" and away you go. For shits and giggles here's a selection of stuff I found/banged out in short order, feel free to use or whatever. I'm not a Photoshop wizard, nor have the patience to make these things super perfect. And yes, the last one may be somewhat offensive, so be warned.... although many seem to think it accurately reflects the management style of a particular computer company...I'm actually going to try loading a 800x480 image on there just for kicks... I wonder...------------------
Last post on this. I just wasted an assload of time trial-and-erroring the logo sizes, and on a black and white (greyscale) bitmap, I was able to get to a size of 530 pixels wide X 318 pixels high without the image getting screwy. However, this was just barely big enough to be somewhat covered by the progress bar at the bottom when loading. So I'm guessing 530X300 to be safe.Hell of a lot better than 238x228!
