Hi Guys,

Both tablets are priced the same over here (£195-£199 mark). Tried to find a tablet comparison website with both on and theres nothing. In your opinions... which is better???

It really comes down to the ARM chips.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0): OMAP 4430
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus: Exynos 4210

Exynos4 is more powerful than OMAP4. Has quad core GPU. Tab 7.0 Plus is the winner.

I am surprised Samsung still uses TFT display and not IPS. Rest of the specs look good.

PS, Galaxy Tab 2 was their older model. Galaxy Tab Plus is their newest 7" tablet.

I thought it was older because it uses older, OMAP4 ARM chip but these sites confirm coming out now:

Not sure what Samsung is doing. Exynos4 is stronger ARM chip. Switching to OMAP4 chip is a big GPU downgrade.

CPU performance would have minor difference between them. It is GPU difference that is really big between the two chips. OMAP4 uses single core PowerVR SGX540 GPU. Exynos4 uses quad core ARM Mali400 GPU. ie, In terms of GPU performance: OMAP 4 scores about same with Tegra2 and is on the low end for dual core chips coming out very soon. Exynos4 scores closer to Tegra3 and is in the high end for dual core chips.

PS, this is the first time I have seen a company downgrade their ARM chip. I have no clue why they would do that. Maybe to save on cost & make more profit? Or ???

PPS, I also read that, "PLS TFT display (that's Samsung's version of IPS)". I guess Samsung does a very high end TFT display that compares to IPS? Very confusing. Again, probably cheaper to use higher quality TFT display than go with IPS.

I am thinking they did the chip switch to cut down on costs and make the pricing more competitive. But performance will take a big hit.

GLBenchmark of Tab 7 Plus VS Tab 2
Tab 7 Plus VS Tab 2

Notice how the Plus gets 2X performance on the "high" tests. Also scores ~1.75X higher in the "offscreen" tests.

Also, Exynos4 CPU clocked @ 1.2 GHz. OMAP4 @ 1 GHz.

That is because one of those tablets uses Tegra2 & the other OMAP4. Both of those ARM chips are fairly equal in terms of CPU & GPU performance. Very small difference between them.

But a big difference between Exynos4 & OMAP4 in GPU performance. About 2-3X better. Exynos4 is much better for any 3D gaming.

Galaxy Note uses Exynos4. See GLBenchmark (GPU bench) below. First 8 tests are most important. You can see the Tab 1 & Tab 2 are fairly equal. The "Note" does 2-3X better in the benches.

Tab 1 vs Tab 2 vs Note
