Thank you for posting a very informative review.
After doing alot of research and comparison, I decided to get the Aurora II.
I wanted to get the Nexus 7 but it didn't have the HDMI port and memory card expansion slot.
And from what I read, there is no perfect tablet. Not even the iPad.

$180 from F&L after code. I have to say there is comfort ordering from an American seller in case anything goes wrong. Frank is great at answering emails usually within a day. I have said it before, out of my 5 tablets used (zenithink c91, elf 2, Aurora 2, ramos w22 pro, ipad2) the Aurora 2 is my favorite. It is the perfect size for browsing and watching movies. The design is great and the screen is actually sharper and brighter than the ipad2. As far as wifi worries are concerned, it isn't as good as the others, but I have never had a problem streaming or browsing.

Problem: Crack on the top left corner of tablet
Description: If you look closely at the top left edge, you will see a small crack.
Solution: That seems to appear on every tablet, people are speculating it is a mold problem. There is no way to remove it, and it is a dent, not a crack, it is so small most people do not realise it.
What you mean when you say it is a dent and not a crack. It looks like a fine crack from the picture as well as when I checked it for the first time after reading about it on your review.

A crack goes through the material, for a crack this size, you would be a able to force the materials side ways if stick your finger nails or a tooth pick in.

It is a dent, the line is just an area where the material is concave in. You can use a slim piece if rigid plastic and move along that area and you will not be able to insert it in and it feels smooth.

This tablet fulfills both my need for a portable video player and my budget.
Hi cygig, I'd like to ask you something about the video. Maybe other can pop some words about it. I notice that video sometimes skips probably one or two frames while playing from time to time. It's very unnoticeable but it's there. Tried different videos but happens all the same, on Mobo video player and MX too. Even on my phone I had noticed it but never bother to find out why. The "jump" in frames is very subtle but sound is always accurate with what's happening. (it's like using frameskip in an emulator or something)

Is this supposed to happen in android? In my laptop works flawless. Please advise, or some other members.

Regards.

You can relate this issue to the encoding of the videos actually. Not android os. I have BS Player, Mobo, MX and PlayerPro all installed because of this issue.

Just bought my Aurora 2 yesterday for 140 USD including a leather case and 6-month warranty (pay another 10 USD if you want 12-month warranty), don't be so surprised because I live only 120km away from the China's border.

So far everything is ok, except the ghost touch while charging, may be the current is unstable. Touch is not so responsive for some fast game like fruit ninja.

I chose Aurora 2 over Nexus 7 because I want to play HD movies over HDMI. Too bad Nexus 7 does not have HDMI and I'm pretty sure it will not support NTFS, so you can only put files smaller than 4GB to the internal storage.

I am not surprised at all. As mentioned in my review, I got it for US$160 and entitled to one year warranty and I am far away in Singapore.

What encoding are your videos in? If you can provide me with a sample of your video I can try to see why. You should download more videos to test out.

From what I know, AML only has hardware decoding for H.264 and not other format.

Video decoding is not as easy as it seems, there are people whose hobby is to study and play with video encoding and decoding. Back in my desktop, on KMplayer, I can choose my video decoder, and if the decoder supports hardware decoding, the renderer, transform filters, input/output colour spaces, post processing, subtitle processing, which layer to render subtitles to etc. You can barely choose those on players on Android, so there are bound to be encodings that decoders do not favor.

Great review was thinking of getting the Aurora II but might hold out for the flame.
I know the flame will have a higher resolution screen, but I can't imagine it being sharper than the Aurora. I am sure it will be noticable, but enough to pay the extra $30+? I will say it is a huge upgrade from the elf to aurora. When looking at the screen from the bottom up, it was very hard to see. All other angles it was fine, especially straight ahead. The ips screen on the Aurora is great, but I think it will need more to get me to buy it. I heard it was supposed to have bluetooth and gps, has that been confirmed?

Not to mention having the same GPU with higher res means your games will now lag more. There is no GPS, I would be sold if they added in GPS. I think GPS is much more useful than bluetooth.

Thanks for the nice review....

I ask something. (not sure if it is the right thread but I cant find any thread for my topic close to this)

Maybe i'm late at this now but i was recently looking into buying an android tablet that serve me well (streaming of movies, music, video call thru skype with gf oversea, ebooks)... and of course a little of gaming. After researching thru the web, being a cheap b@3tard and as a frugal i admit, i set my budget that fit to the aurora 2.

After awhile, I heard the news of Novo 7 Flame, which officially they are starting to ship their product thruout the world. Comparing the spec sheet, the only "extra" feature that differentiate with the aurora 2 is the 1280*800 resolution, dual camera, metal casing, bluetooth, and also the 5000mAh. For the resolution, i agree with cygig, where same GPU with higher res mean fps suffer more. Additional rear camera, and I believe not much of u guys will be using tablet for photography dont u, we have a much better and fast cam available thru mobile phone. Regarding metal casing, it looks tempting, but 90% of ppl normally use casing, so I dont think it is very much important for the upgrade. Bluetooth is a good add on but to be honest, since i got my iphone 3gs back in 3 years time, i dont remember i ever used the bluetooth, every thing runs with wifi even ur app that act as remote for ur pc. lastly, the 5000mah batt i believe is to compensate on the 1280 res batt drainer.

So now, back to my question. Which one to get? The AURORA II or the FLAME. the only question for me now is the android OS version. As what i read from the net, aurora 2 runs 4.0.4 ICS latest. and same to the FLAME. But from the official website of ainol-novo dot com, they reply question from customer saying that 4.1 Jellybean is coming and compatible to the FLAME. Sorry for such a noob question since I'm a iOS user, i dont know much about android. In short, can AURORA II gets JELLYBEAN by the time FLAME get it? is it even possible that we(aurora 2 user) be able to go to Jellybean once it is available to the flame?

That's all for me now. Sorry for the long reply, and sorry for my bad english as english is not my main language.

Looking forward for a positive and helpful reply here.
