Ramos or Blue Devils in Chinese brand started to flood the China MID market a series of Tablets using a Samsung Exynos 4412 QuadCore Cortex A9 processor with QuadCore Mali400 graphics at full speed. It started with their recent release Ramos W30 and W30HD which creates a huge difference to other China MID brands that opted to use a cheaper QuadCore solution instead like FreeScale i.MX6Q and Action Semi ATM7029 chipsets.

The Ramos W42 is a 9.4" Tablet that is almost identical to PiPO Max-M8 that we've already featured here before. However, the Ramos W42 is actually using a much powerful chipset than PiPO Max-M8's Rockchip RK3066 DualCore chipset with half-speed Mali400 MP4 graphics, and a much faster Bluetooth Connectivity. It has a WiFi Connectivity, Accelerometer and Gyro function, although it lack an HDMI-out and some features were scaled down. Its still using Android 4.0.4 IceCreamSandwich OS which is very unfortunate. Hopefully, Ramos will provide decent JellyBean updates on their Exynos 4412 Tablets.

You can now place your pre-order at an Online Store based in Shenzhen China which offers a very competitive price of US$266.99 including a world-wide free shipping. The item is expected to be release 1st or 2nd week of January 2013.

The Ramos W42 is using the same screen that PiPO Max-M8 uses, a 1280x800pixel HD720p resolution 10-point Multi-Touch Display Panel with vivid and bright IPS screen Technology. Wider viewing angles, perfect image quality and clearer display of Text. Suitable for every users need like Gaming, Movie Playback, Viewing Photos, Browsing the Web and Reading E-books.
A low resolution 0.3MP Front Facing camera is placed on the middle-top of the bezel which can be useful on Video Calling.

This is where PiPO Max-M8 had an advantage, Ramos W42 placed a 2.0MP Rear Camera without LED Flash and a Monofiring LoudSpeaker instead of Stereo Speakers. PiPO Max-M8's 5.0MP Rear Camera with Flash is said to captures good quality of HD Photos and Videos and the Stereo Speaker which are placed in the Front provides great sound clarity and quality. A 2.0MP Rear Camera can still be useful, however, it requires good lightings if used indoor.
The Monofiring LoudSpeaker placed in the back is somehow a bit disappointing for this almost great QuadCore Tablet. I guess they had to do some sacrifice in order to maintain competitive price. Let's just hope it provide at-least decent quality of sound.

The Ramos W42 also have a lower Battery Capacity of 5400mAh capacity against 6500mAh capacity of PiPO Max-M8, however Samsung Exynos 4412 Chipset is proven efficient so don't be surprise if these two offers very similar Battery Life. Additional PiPO Max-M8 advantage is how they design the Tablet. its almost comparable to Sonxy Xperia S Tablet with its 9mm thickness against Ramos W42's 10.5mm. Both are using Aluminium Shell Case to protect the back of the Tablet and if we look PiPO Max-M8's WiFi performance, there should be no problem on Ramos W42's WiFi performance as-well.

As for the performance, it should be a hands down win of Ramos W42 over PiPO Max-M8.
Thanks for reading...

I really would love a review about this tablet
yes, please review when you get it. I am turned off by the small battery and the single speaker. On a 9.4" tablet, there is plenty of room for decent speakers and larger battery. I would gladly forgo the thinness trend for decent sized battery. I would also gladly pay a bit extra for those features. Also, let us know how the buttons feel/work. They kind of look cheap and flimsy though its hard to tell in pictures. I don't really like the shiny silver buttons, wish they were just black.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing your review as I'm very curious about these new Exynos tablets

I have my sights on this one. Merimobiles says it will have 4.1 installed early Feb.

The M8 is very enticing with it's front speakers; better camera setup and slim body. Regrettably, I have just seen a number of glitches mentioned regarding the M8.

The Ramos line is supposed to be pretty good in QC and support from what I read.

I too look forward to a full review as well.

Really wanted the M8, but i have lost confidence in Pipo lately. For that reason i opted for the Ramos W42 and i have to say i am not disappointed. It's a quality product, good solid build, very responsive and i just love the high definition screen (no need for screen protector as the touch panel is made of high intensity tempered glass) Had not heard that 4.1 would be available so soon thank you, this will be the icing on the cake

Sorry I cancelled my order! There was a delay getting the tablet in and they didn't know when they would get more stock, so I cancelled in favor of waiting for the rk3188. Sorry all!
No worries!!! RK3188 will be better than Exynos 4412 chip. RK3188 tablets should be coming out in about 6 weeks time. Pipo & Cube have announced tablets they are getting ready to ship out.

It really is worth waiting just 6 more weeks. Though, 1st batches may not have the best quality control. ie. probably higher # of defective units early on. So, little risky getting the early batches but people hate to wait another 3-4 months more.

Mini review for Ramos W42 Android 4.04(Build 20130104.115526)

AnTuTu 3.0.3 benchmark: 15449 (29/01/2013)

Ram.. 3210
CPU integer.. 4426
CPU float point.. 3179
2D graphics.. (800x1232) 1190
3D graphics.. (800x1232) 2684
Database IO.. 420
SD card write.. (23.8MB/s) 150
SD card read.. (20.9MB/s) 190
CPU frequency.. 1400 MHZ(x4)

It's a solid tablet, build quality feels good. All ports and buttons are on the left side which is convenient. I found the Mini SD card slot to be a bit fiddly. Volume and power buttons feel solid and work well. Battery takes around 4 hrs to fully charge from 0%, lasts easily over 6 hours during normal use.. web browsing, some gaming and you tube videos. Audio features one speaker.. sound is reasonable, but not exceptional. Wifi is great.. i was able to connect to the play store from 30 feet outside the house.
Screen resolution is perfect for a 9" tab, rich vibrant colors and sharp text. Games look great.. so far i have only played CK Zombies 2 and Highway Rally.

Recently got the 9.4" leather case which fits well and is good quality.

Edit: features Bluetooth 4.0, no HDMI output.

Thanks for the input.

Question on the case.
If this is the one offered by the vendor (tablet slips in; cutouts for ports, speakers & screen) ...is it reasonably tight; snug in holding the tablet in place?

I have bought these type cases before, and the tab was not tight enough fitting, actually would slide out of case if turned wrong.

Hi BamaPanda

I've not seen this on the Ramos site, only cases for other tabs so far. I took a chance and bought one from trait-tech 2 weeks ago. Some other sites like AliExpress have it in stock now.

(tablet slips in; cutouts for ports, speakers & screen) Yes, the tablet fits snugly and does not slip/fall out and i can access all ports and buttons, there are cutouts on back for the speaker. W42 is stamped into the leather in the bottom right corner.

I found a chinese review about the Ramos W42.
Thanks janesh
I have ordered mine now (being a skinflint I waited for Saturday to get the extra $5 discount for using Mastercard, lol).

They did promise to ship before Chinese NY though.

Oke Jez, good to hear, mine have complete clearance processing in Amsterdam and will be monday morning with delivery courier.
You are right Jez, i do the same, looking at coupons, and too bad i have a visa cart.

What a great processor, the exynos 4412, in three days not one freeze or lag, and blazing fast. Boot time 20 seconds and after that immediately complete usable.
Viewing and reading that review, i expect a slightly better and brighter screen in the Ramos W42. They are listing a quadrant score above 5000, while my ployer momo11 quad does not come above 4500.
Invert, ployer momo11 quad in antutu, 16500 and Ramos w42, 15281. Geekbench2 of my ployer above 1900, what is great.
Oke we will wait, till monday afternoon, then i hope i can tell more.

This is looking to be a really nice tablet, as well as the custom case.

Would anyone care to share a bit more on ...

Handling -
This tab is not super thin ..as the Pipo M8 is. Does it still feel good in the hand; easy to hold?

Does it ever strike you as being a bit thick?

Is the back slick to the point of making it somewhat difficult to hold with one hand?

How about the camera on the back? I was drawn to the better camera on the M8, but am thinking this one is really acceptable. Is it?

Can anyone make a comparison on battery performance vs. a different tab they now own, or have owned?

Thank you very much.

Hey janesh,

I will be looking for your review on Monday and keeping fingers crossed hoping we haven't bought a dud
Well based on Venome's comments so far it sounds hopeful.

It's certainly looking like the Exynos 4412 could be a contender for the quad core crown. At least until the RK3188 comes out and even then based on early RK3188 benchmark figures Exynos shouldn't be too far behind. It also seems like a better balanced chip than the Allwinner A31 which seems to have a strong GPU but relatively poor CPU and not so good early firmware. As for Actions ATM7029, lol what were Ainol thinking
That just leaves Freescale iMX.6, nuf said

One thing I noticed with the Ramos W30HD was excellent app visibility on Play Store. Is the Momo11 Quad the same? Maybe something to do with Samsung based SoC.

@Venome how is the W42 app visibility? Any others good/bad points you have noticed since you wrote the first look?

Really looking forward to getting this W42.

Cheers
