Hi,I am a newbie to the PDN and to the forum. I would like to install "quick boot", which require root access, but I ran into some problems and I'd be most appreciative if you could give me some advice. This iswhat I have done so far:(1) I first upgraded the FW to 7-24 (works great)(2) I followed the instruction in the Beginners Guides ([ul]http://www.slatedroid.com/showthread.php/2199-Beginners-Guide-to-hacking-the-Pandigital-Novel?highlight=beginners+guide[/ul]) to install the toolchain and driver installation info.(3) I installed quick_boot.apk following the instruction in([ul/http://www.slatedroid.com/showthread.php/2564-Using-ADB-to-install-.apk-method-With-pictures[/ul](4) I ran the bat file in post #1 of([ul]http://www.slatedroid.com/showthread.php/2756-Easy-root?highlight=easy+root[/ul])Everything seems to install okay. But when I ran quick boot -- I tried all three options (reboot, boot into recovery, bootloader) -- the PDN does not seem to boot any faster, taking the same 1'10'' or so to boot. I must have done something incorrectly; help!Comments:(a) Perhaps I have to first configure quick boot? But I couldn't find anymenu.(
After I ran the "easy root" bat file and before I ran quick boot forthe first time, the PDN seems to have gotten a bit more sluggish -- e.g.LaunchPro seems to take an extra second to run, and the touch screenis a (tiny bit) less responsive, although I can't really quantify it. MaybeI didn't root it correctly?(c) Running "recovery" does not seem to result in a terminal, which surprises me (as someone coming from linux).(d) As the previous comment suggests, I'm not really familar with window; maybe I did something wrong on that side?MANY MANY THANKS from a newbie!

I don't think you have done anything wrong. If I am understanding correctly all quickboot does is give you links to to place on your home screen so that you can use a link to get in to these areas. It does not make booting of the device faster. Also, I don't think you can get in to recovery unless the recovery image allows you to (with out special tools or permission we don't have) which the standard recovery does not seem to let you.

The solution in the video uses a special bios in the device. They are trying to sell it to mfrs to incorporate in their devices.
