Hi guys,

I have no idea why PiPo use such a rubbish system for ROM hosting.

Ive been trying to download the new ROM for the M2 which will hopefully sort the microSD problem and the lack of rotate on maps/earth, and a bit of a laggy issue... but I cannot get to the frigging rom!

The PiPo page leads to Rayfile. Rayfile says the 290mb file is too big, and require you to install an app called RaySource, which is in chinese, and pasting the download link into that takes you to the same site. Other download links are for computer games, porno dating sites etc...

WTF, really pathetic PiPo!

Anyone have any luck getting their roms from PiPo, please let me know how, Thanks!

Hi Mark,

Exactly the same experience here.

I have un installed the Raysource sw now as it didn't help and in case of malware, although my av sw didn't find anything.

I am hopefully getting an sd card from my local supplier full of firmwares for all the Pipo models. He is awaiting it from his Chinese supplier. I will share as soon as I get it.

Pipo really need to sort this out though. I will email Amy Ye and suggest others do too.

Hi Mark,

Exactly the same experience here.
Hey there Jezzer,

Yep, amy said she was WeTransferring the firmware, though I DID (somehow) manage to get that horrible RaySource to work.

I THINK the trick is to register on the Ray site, THEN to click on Add to "my space".

Then after about 20 attempts, the file got queued in the RaySource app and began downloading!

I will upload to my FTP site for you and others. (weirdly it says firmware version 4.0.04 in Rockchip, though it is more recent than the Jelly Bean ROM 4.1.1 that came with the device... ODD!

NOW I cannot get the Tablet to be "seen" by Rockchip 1.5. I have Been rebooting, trying pressing vol up/down while rebooting, to no avail. The instructions assume the tablet will be seen instantly by the system

Im gonna search for help on this one.

I will post a download link to the firmware once ive uploaded it.

Cheers
Mark.

Thanks Mark,

I wonder if that fw is for the Mix M2 as that comes with 4.0.4 rather than JB 4.1.1?
That's good news from Amy Ye. I'll try Raysource again although using it is rather like Chinese water torture

Here's what I have found for the M1 and M3 regarding flashing (I suspect the M2 is one or the other but I don't have any firmware to flash so haven't tried it):

UPDATE: According to the update instructions here (I used Google translate) the M2 instructions are the same as the M1.

For flashing M1:
With tablet turned off
Press and hold Vol -
Press reset (use paper clip)
Still holding Vol - connect the USB cable to the USB (not Host) port

For flashing M3:
With tablet turned off
Press and hold Vol +
Press reset (use paper clip)
Still holding Vol + connect the USB cable to the USB (not Host) port

Cheers

Which imbecile had this idea to use the reset button for recovery mode?
Probably the same one that decided to release the M3 with a crippled CPU

Hey there Jez

Thanks for the info... neither works for my M2!
Moborobo sees the tablet, as does win8, but Rockchip Batch Tool just sits there.
I did not keep the reset button depressed while holding the volume AND plugging in the usb, id need another hand! But presumably thats not what one has to do.

I asked Amy why the more recent rom is 4.0.4 (they name it 4.0.04 strangely) and am awaiting a reply.

Cheers,
Mark.

Hey Mark,

I just tried it myself with the Mix M2 -- I still don't have any fw for it; I just ran batch tool to see if it would recognise the tablet in flash mode.
Same result as you
Out of curiosity I tried other combinations of power and vol + and - but still no luck.

I wonder if RKAndroidTool (Reboot to Flash Mode) would work? Gonna try

Hey Mark,

On my Mix M2 if I connect the tablet powered off to the PC running RKBatch Tool, then press and hold power (not reset) and vol - on the M2 after about 6 seconds I get the green square on RKBatch Tool briefly and then it goes back to blank. I cannot find a way to make it stay green. Using reset and vol - (or +) does not seem to work.

To see the tablet with green icon for flashing firmware:

1) Tablet turned on
2) Connect USB cable
3) Hold VOL+ and press the reset pin hole once (This will turn off the tablet)
4) Continue holding the VOL+ for a few seconds until the icon turns green.

Hey Jez
I uninstalled moborobo and while powered up and plugging in the tablet (i tried so many things i cant remember what worked) I got the green light, immediately pressed Switch, then Upgrade, but got a message which makes me think you were right about the PiPo Max M2 vs the PiPo MIX M2...

"operation didnt do because of not supporting"

hmmm

@JokerFace, do you have the Pipo MAX M2 or Pipo MIX M2?
are you sure the version is showing on your tablet as 4.1.1.

Hey Jez
OK... so I tried the RKDeviceManage.exe file I got from PiPo, similar to rockchip batch tool, but with this, the device is recognised seconds after plugging in the usb cable, no buttons pressed. I do have the usb debugging switched OFF. This ONLY works with Debugging OFF.

BUT the process starts and then i get an error saying the "operation didnt do because of failing to install rockchip driver"

Dang this is crappy. You'd think these guys do not have computers to test their upgrade procedure.

I wonder if this is now a win8 thing... though I was on my win7 machine earlier today, but perhaps moborobo was preventing the tool from working properly.

I will try the win7 in a while.

when you load it into Rockchip batch tool, it says 4.0.04, right?

did you succeed in flashing it?

which volume, up or down, from power off, after pressing reset etc, please share your success.

Yes ist shows 4.0.4 but its 4.1.1.

Flashing was succeesfull.

I used volume down to come into flash mode.

I´m very unhappy with this firmware. I would repair the freezes and reboots but know I have much more reboots so I didn´t recommend the firmware update.

EDIT: I have the MAX-M2 Edition!

So do you think the fw you d/loaded was for the Mix M2 and not the 3G M2 after all?
By the way is the 3G M2 called the Max M2?

I never got into "green" mode using Rockchip Batch Tool (first time that's happened with 7 different RK3066 tablets!).
I'll try the Pipo tool when I get some fw for the Mix M2.
