While examining logs of the PDN boot, it is (as we know) running 600x800. What's a little odd is that it has a virtual resolution of 800x1200 set. Is this typical on other devices?e_t

That's pretty typical, from what I've seen on other devices. I also have an Epic, and my husband has an Evo and an Archos 101.

Maybe it's to accommodate for the wallpaper when switching between landscape and portrait.
