Oma Rocks ROM

Dev Oma along with Astralix, JochenKauz and netlars have worked feverishly to create several revisions of the Oma Rocks ROM. Below are the revisions and patches linked to make your v88 (and v88s) purr like a finely oiled machine. Each ROM version has ClockWorkMod (CWM) and provides Root permission in its build.

The explanation for Oma's build number nomenclature is below:
v3.x - JB 4.2.2
v4.x - JB 4.2.2 SDK2.0
v5.x - JB 4.2.2 SDK2.0 multi window

Below are DL links and benefits of the latest release for each type of build (v5.x, v4.x and v3.x)

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: CHUWI HAS CHANGED OUT HARDWARE FOR THE SCREEN CONTROLLER FOR 2ND GEN MODELS OF THE V88. 2ND GEN MODELS CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY THEIR S/N. MODELS WITHOUT "QUAD" IN THEIR S/N ARE CONSIDERED 2ND GEN MODELS (THIS CAN INCLUDE THE "TIG," V88S AND V88HD MODELS). 1st Gen models (V88 QUAD, V88S AND TIG) should use kernel Bob#160 which is the default kernel in the later builds of this ROM.

2nd Gen model users should check what kernel currently is being used in with their firmware before flashing this (Settings menu - About tablet - Kernel version). Once you have ID'd your kernel number, swap out the kernel in this ROM with your compatible one.See this post which provides DL links for all the 2nd GEN kernels. Make sure you flash your 2nd Gen model using the correct kernel or your screen will not work (you will get a black screen) and will need to reflash your tablet. See this post on how to swap out your kernel if you get a black screen.

Flashing Instructions for Installing Oma Rocks ROMs:

1. Copy format_NAND fix to sdcard
2. Hard power off your V88 (hold power button until it powers off)
3. While holding Volume+ (up) button
4. Plug USB into your PC (update mode)
5. Install missing drivers from driver folder if you have not already
6. Run RKAndroidTool.exe as Admin (click right)
7. Select EraseIDB (current should count up to 4096)
8. Select Flash Rom
9. V88 will boot into CWM
10. Run format_NAND fix (install zip from ext_sdcard)
11. Reboot
12. wait 4 minutes

NOTE: Oma has provided a new kernel (bob #160) which can be flashed with this ROM. Link to kernel download can be found here.

Patches:
NAND_fix - batch file which is installed via CWM ("install zip on sdcard" or "external sdcard" commands in CWM) allowing tablet to properly mount external/internal SD card and wipe cache
PhabletUI - batch file which is installed via CWM (("install zip on sdcard" or "external sdcard" commands in CWM) allowing tablet's UI to use the "Phablet" UI style
TabletUI - batch file which is installed via CWM (("install zip on sdcard" or "external sdcard" commands in CWM) allowing tablet's UI to use "Tablet" UI style

Patch Install Directions:
1. Copy patch file to your external card
2. If installing Oma ROM for the first time, ROM will automatically install CWM and boot into CWM once installed
2.5 If already installed Oma ROM, boot into CWM by either using recovery app (like Quick Boot) or do a hard shutdown and then hold the volume "+" and then power button for three seconds and you should boot into CWM
3. Once booted into CWM navigate to "install zip to external sdcard"; navigate to where on external sdcard patch file is located and install
4. Reboot into system using CWM

*Note: if your patch file on your external sdcard isn't seen at first, try removing and re-installing card and look for it again.

Oma Rocks ROM Revs:

Note: Early Oma Rocks ROM builds may be incompatible with your device as Chuwi released modification to hardware. Version 3.3 and up account for these changes and should work on all v88 and v88s. Lower versions may cause your tablet to "soft-brick" and should not be attempted. Discussion of v3.3 and later builds starts on post #71 and forward

Build v5.3a (JB 4.2.2 SDK2.0 multi window)
Based on Chuwi's 08/01/13 firmware release.

I got problem in downloading V3.4.

Chrome: Archive corrupted after download completion.
IE: stuck at 99%.

Not sure problem occurs from the source or at my side. Thanks your help in advance.
OP updated with new v5.2 release:

Improvements include:
- built using Bob#160 kernel
- Improved task-switching when in Multi-windows mode

I found this ROM to be pretty unstable in the past. Has Oma worked those issues out?

Flashed the v5.2 over the weekend and I am very happy so far. Got a 19,996 on Antutu for anyone that cares (using "Performance" governor with CPU Tweaks). Very snappy and fluid. BT works well (tested with BT speaker). Had some issues with crashes and force closes using the "One Browser." No such issues when using Chrome. XBMC works. Task switching works. My new favorite ROM.

smithmal
Well, I decided to give it a shot. Results were mixed, but generally positive.

I'm not experiencing any force closes, or lock ups yet, but I am having some issues that seem to be related to wifi.

Wifi has been dropping out at times, especially after waking from sleep. Battery drain was pretty high on Wifi Sleep "Only While Charging", so I switched it to Never, as Oma suggests and it battery is really good now.

Task switching works only when multi-window is enabled. Also the little multi-window floating button keeps returning even though I keep unchecking the setting for it.

So I would call it definitely still quirky but usable, good on battery, and most of all, very fast and responsive. I agree with smithmal-- it does seem like it might be the best ROM out there at the moment.
Has anyone succeeded in getting Dead Trigger 2 installed on this ROM?
Hi everyone Between oma 3.4 , 4.3 and 5.2 which is smootherand better wifi connectivity.
And if I use my sd card class 4 or 10 as nand will it help smoothen the tablet

Try them all and see which one you like the best. Using the RK tool, it's very easy to flash between the different versions and test them with your tablet. Just make sure you do a NAND erase between each flash.

I believe the v88 gets the highest benchmark score with v5.2.

Your SD card can't be used as NAND unless you can get the tablet to switch it's card designation (making the internal card used as the external and vice versa). I know there are some hacks that do this, but I'm not sure if the Oma ROM is set up to go this by default.

Guys, My Chuwi V88s was bricked after flashing some stock firmware of Oma Rom. after a lot of difficulties, I managed to get the blue icon with the pin thing. So in the video the guy said: presh on Erase IDB, it gave me an error: Mask Error on Loader. So I was like okay then ill go download the Timeless Repack Rom, so I downloaded it, and flashed it with the Rockchip Batch tool 1.7. I cant remember if I had to press on Upgrade or Restore as it sayd in the description on page 1: FLASH. thers no option but okay.
So I Pressed on restore so i went on installing the rom, and the icon became green so I was like yey, its gna reboot but it didnt. Well it did, but a black screen. On the back of my tablet, (its open) I see my screen is white, the light is on. But its not starting, why not? SO I tried opening Androidtools, and I could erase IDB now. So I did. SUccessfully.
So then I flashed the timeless rom repack again, and clicked on upgrade, rebooting but still its a black screen. Is it the rom? Or do I need to flash a kernel in Androidtools or what? or are all the kernels and recovery etc inside the timelessrom? DOes anyone else have a ROM that DOES work?
Thankfully my laptop recognizes my chuwi v88s, it says: Found , so I can flash thank God. But why doesnt the rom work? Weird that for some the repack timeless works, magbe for the v88 and not the v88s?
Serialnumber: 16GB1131000257
Ordered at Bangood.com
Orderdate: 12/11/2013

So I download that kernel of second generation 09/07, not working. Its now not even recognizing my tablet, I did the pin trick again, got the blue icon again, IDB erase didnt work, error, Loader error. Tried pin thing again, blue again, could now flash timeless repack rom. Rebooting, black screen again. Unplugged, plugged. Computer recognizes my tablet now as: CW-V88-QUAD
My serial number means i dont need the quad so i dont rly get it. Is this the reason why its showing a black screen and not booting? Maybe someone has this solution for me
why is there no ROM for the 2nd generation? Or is my tablet first generation?
