(apparently)Rugged PC Review.com - Technoloy -- Augen GenTouch78 Android tabletNot bad, although I did notice that he was a little shaky at first as to how google maps was locating his position, but by the end of the review knew why...Good to see that it was not being reviewed as an iPad replacement or killer like many other reviews, or just entirely dismissive and disdainful from the start.(Saw it first at androidtablets thread in their gentouch sub-forum)

I must disagree. He clearly starts by saying that it's NOT an iPad replacement/killer, and then goes on to compare it to PDAs, which is/was also what my view of tablets are. Something between a PDA and a notebook, i.e. small enough to be comfortably portable and useful while not quite as powerful as a good notebook. The current Android tablets AND the iPad are in the same boat there, although many of the Android tablets from China are seriously lacking in the CPU department & RAM.

His review is good. However, there are some things in his review that are outdated. For example, he mentioned the sound not working. This was already fixed by the update that came out before he wrote that review. His conclusion is spot on. From day one, people have been trying to use it like an ipad because it looks like a little ipad. Pretty much all of the earlier reviews were reviewing this device using the ipad as a reference point. You can't do that because the gentouch costs a a quarter of the price of an ipad.

Just don't like it when they compare it Gentouch78 with iPad! No where near it! Would have been better if it was compared to the iTouch, but not iOS 4 though. Still everyone going to review this GT78 in there own way. Hands-on or written. With all the tweaks , rooting the darn thing is 85% better then when I had purchased it out of the box.

But now I'm keeping it. I commute everyday to the city (takes a little over an hour train ride) and I've stopped taking my laptop with me. No, the GT78 can't replace a laptop. Yes, it works just fine with what I want/need to do.I'm so sick and tired of all those damn reviews bashing this device because it doesn't measure up to the ipad. In fact, some reviews I've seen even bashed this device for things that ipad has. For example, start-up time on this device takes about a minute. Well, even the $800 ipad takes just as long to start up. What does this tell me? It tells me that people just want to criticize the device no matter what they criticize. Here is the worst review (of any product) I have ever seen. The chick practically said "I knew it would suck. See, I told you so..." Personally, I think that chick ought to be fired from laptop mag. YouTube - Augen Gentech 7-inch Android Tablet Hands-On

People will see what they want to see. If all they see is iPad, that's all they compare it to. But the good reviewers will take a deeper dive, exploring all facets of the device, from what it took to get the device to market to the inner workings. I learned a few things about this device from his review, and I own it This board is jammed with features...http://www.ruggedpcreview.com/images/gentouch_telechips_400.jpgI wasn't aware it supported CAN protocol. Does anyone know if it can ever support Bluetooth?

Augen removed some nice features from Gentouch78 but to sell it at Kmart dirt cheap it alright for some. Once Rooted and tweaked then it runs very quick at 660MHz. I to can go over family and friends and use it on their network without issues. Lookup USA Today, order stuff off Amazon, HSN, QVC it can do task like this without pulling out the huge laptop or netbook. Over the past Labor Day I get questions like is that iPad? I say no it's a Tablet PC running Android OS. They ask what's that? How much does it cost an etc. Kids want to use but I say no because I am worried if they drop it and tell me whoops, I won't be able to use it again. Those who don't own it or have it to test out might not like it at first. It's a huge step from Windows 7, laptop or netbook to use this device. But once you get the hang of it like child-play.
