My unit arrived today after much fighting and an open Paypal Refund claim.Never deal with Ebenda Technology! Anyway,What I got is the X5A with Rom 297Market and Gmail is there.I'm REALLY new to this, not sure what would make it better off the start, what I can DELETE from the icons safely, and not sure if some things are NORMAL that are going on.If you folks wouldn't mind chiming in on my list of Qs it would be Greatly appreciated !QUESTIONS:1. When I first turn it on I have a BOOT SPLASH Screen.... It's a meadow with Butterfly and I LOVE YOU written... Is this Normal? or as I suspect was it a used item?2. I have Android Market AND eoe Market... what is that?3. Under Setting, SD & Storage, I get 284MB available Internal. BUT this is a 256MB Ram and 4GB STORAGE without me adding anything. What's up?4. Is there a way to turn off Advanced Task Manager once it's used? I mean I get a blue icon in the top left that does not hut off unless I turn the device off.5. When I turn off the MID the POWER OFF screen comes up to OK it. I get a bunch of random garbling around the bottom of the screen...intermittently until i turn it off.6. SCREEN SHOTS ADDED*** please let me know if this is standard, or any suggestions to change. Thanks7. My orientation switched... I mean, my MID went from landscape to portrait, seemingly on it's own once. Did not do it again. No app is installed that I see. There IS G-Sensor enable automatic or not in the settings, but only switched that once.8. Mine came with a Screwed On leather-ish case. 4 screws in back (no stand)... anyone know if this can come off without damage? how to find a case that clips on?9. Anyone know where I can get a CHEAP screen protector for this? the seller didn't ship it.10. What Apps should I put on this thing to make it better right off the start? I know to find RotateD, but what else? o I need Task Killer? and others?11. Is there a tutorial on how to set it up to go Wifi Web Browsing? This has Gmail already on it.12. Is there a way to Minimize or move elsewhere the Big Google Search Bar across the top of the main screen?13. Anyone want to trade me a 16GB MicroSD card for my new 16GB class 6 full size SD card? (I got two, testing them to make sure they are real...keeping one, but need a micro)That's it for now.Want to know anything lmk, I'll try to answer.Jim

1. Only way to tell is have someone else get one form vendor and see their splash screen. Might by custom from Vendor or custom from a User.2. Eoe is just another market. Slideme.org is another you can use these when the android market doesn't work. ( the app is there can you d/l an app?)3. Sounds like same problem Augen Telechip device had internal memory reports back wrong free amount. (Augen Fix was change amount to 'unavailable'). You probably have 4 gig just can't tell. 4. Leave it on. If you need it once you'll need it many times. see FAQ: Why You Shouldn't Be Using a Task Killer with Android if you need it at all.5. ? have not heard of that before. what happens if you cancel instead of power off. (this is minor)6. N/a for now7. May not really have a sensor. Just an app that defaulted to portrait to start. turn g-sensor off you then get an icon to tap to rotate or get app rotateD 8. ?9. ?10. see augen forum similar device 11. Goto wi/fi settings Turn on WI/Fi. Under wi/fi networks names of local ssid's will appear.tap one if it needs password it will ask for it tap connect. done12 Drag it to trash. (long tap on it it will get lrger and move slightly, tab to app drawer is now trash drag and drop.13. not me.If we meet you owe me a beer!Read Android 101: A Guide to Using Your Android Phone - PCWorld Android 101Check the wiki for other info.

hey mogriththanks....ok....*When Power Off Screen --- hit cancel instead, it goes back to home screen fine, no arble. Garble is only while the Power Off Screen is up. Must be a weird glitch.*This is the stable, newer, Market included (reportedly working, have not tried yet) #297 rom. So, why would it not report the Memory right? No one else showing this problem. Anyone? Is there a fix?*Turned G-Sensor option Off. but no button to click to change orientation appeared.*Thanks, got rid of the google bar.*My battery use shows IDLE 67%.... i thought i saw a solution to get the battery idle down considerable, but not sure where?*I'll get a photo of the splash screen for people to have a check.##New Question: Youtube and Regular Movie player. I see Tudou, Youtube and YoutubeHD. Is one Youtube App best and full screen for Droid 2.1 ? And what do I use to watch FLV OFFLINE ? and regular AVI, MKV movies?Half nervous to try doing anything with it (grin)

1st So if you off it shuts off and if you cancel it's ok. (It's a FEATURE) eye catching reminder to power down or not. (old joke it's not a bug it's a feature)2nd don't know if others have this issue or not. You might try usb connection to PC. then read free space there.3rd bummer, well as you said you know how to get rotateD looks like you need it.4th That widget is a waste of space just a google Ad.5th Thread on removing/renaming phone apps to help search in Augen area for dissscussion.6th YouTubeHD probably, try just tapping a flv, etc in the file browser, Should launch a viewer. Not sure if your device has a recovery mode and nandriod backup. If you do make a backup first. that way is you remove something vital you can restore it.

@Asure ... you're always good for a laugh mateYeah, just afraid of breaking something.... i'm in the boat that if I break I can't buy another.I'm waiting for my mini in-port usb reader to come now. I had to buy new memory because of the fake ones that came with the unit. (one of the cards is actually working, though counterfeit)

Cheers jim
Plugging in a USB device won't kill your tablet though. I can understand you're happy with it right now, and don't want to break it. I'm more of a hacker-type, but these tablets, you can't really break. We have firmware, and in worst-case scenario it can completely be recovered with the right tools.

See Backup apps - WikiYou end up with a folder full of apks that can be moved/copied/shared.

Hi... so basicaly, once the MID is full, thats it?i mean, some programs like Games and Word Processor can take up a lot of room.if you could play from card... or if it was on the card but then loads into the MID when called... you know? What about on the card, but then put a shortcut on the MID?no way around this?I thought I'd be able to plug in memory in the USB and use like extra hard drive, and use my MID card reader just for basic storage and transfer... but maybe not?

It doesn't work like that really :)You have three main places on your MID1. /data - Android install location, apps and settings live here, around 300Mbytes2. /nand - Internal flash space, 3.3 Gbytes3. /sdcard - As big as you put in..You can place you media, books, movies etc etc. on the SD card or /nand, those are the biggest space eaters.Apps do not take up much space. I have around 64Mbytes data on my HTC Desire, and that's not nearly full, with lots of apps installed.Big games, like Super KO boxing, they need 85Mbytes for game data, but that's stored on SD card as a separate download. So as you can imagine, the 300MBytes you have on /data, is a lot of space really. Even expensive phones have a lot less space..Apps are generally small. Say 300-400 Kbytes. For reference:300,000,000 bytes space. 300,000 bytes for a small app.= lots left

Asure... so Game data automatically saves to a SD card (or do you have to tell it to), but the program stays in the /data ? or can the game be installed to the /nand and run?Trying to get my head around it (a little like the old palmtops)The cool thing is ill have 2 SD cards in the unit (if it will read 2 cards), but it's overkill if all Games and apps live only in /data 8(--now to screw off the case and wash that smelly thing... i mean WOW.

Games usually ask if they're big, where to download. Most do SD card automatically.Install Super KO boxing from the market, it's free anyways, and you will see what i mean
/NAND is available when you plug the tablet in a PC as internal storage, and you can copy movies and pics there as well.

I got it.*Am I crazy, or does this model (with 297) not have any MP3 or Video Player built in? I'm not seeing anything.--> if not... what are people most pleased with for Video and Mp3 playing? (vids i mostly use AVI, FLV and MKV)*Also, when I tried to use Voice Recorder, it wouldnt work...because it asked for the memory card to be installed.... Shouldn't it have gone to /nand first?(also does this Telechip have VFP ?? i dont know what it is, but some video players want it)
