everyones reviewed this thing so i wont do that. these are the things i've found out while using it for about a day.1. you need an adapter for the 2.5mm jack. i got mine at radio shack http://is.gd/dS1jS2. its not the fastest thing in the world. my linpack score was around 4 mflops and my quadrant score was about 250 (a high of 257 and a low of 236) compared to my EVO which gets 583. 3. built in mono speaker is AWFUL therefore 1.4. the case works kinda like a kick stand. which is awesome. having the evo, i'm used to this kind of feature 5. i need a note taking program that allows me to draw what i write or i need to get graffiti for android installed.6. no accelerometer means a lot of games are out of our reach7. this thing plays AVIs(divx, xvid) out of the box. i still need to test a mkv8. want to change orientation? i use nook to put the phone into portrait mode and i play a video to put it in landscape.now i pose questions. is there a recovery mode?anyone planning on making a rom for this device?anyone planning on any hardware mods? anyone willing to take theirs apart?

I will add a few things (started playing around with mine).- The unit it warm to the touch, and before I even modded it.- su hack works, to allow SetCPU to function. However, the Mhz increase doesn't fix the UI choppiness.- Launcher Pro works.- ACV does NOT work, so far. I can't seem to get it to go even close to full screen. Seems to get stuck thinking that the screen is only 1/4 of the size that it actually is.- I do not like the buttons on the back. Bad design decision, imo.- The default music player does play WMA, and it does play OGG Vorbis. And reads their tags too.- WPA2 AES WiFi works. No issues with power ups so far, or sleep mode.- Aldiko works, and you can configure it to run in portrait mode to get around the accelerometer issue. - The case is really nice. - Quandrant score: 233- Tested one XVID AVI, played but no video, just the audio. I will wait for the new firmware before I pass judgment. I like the WiFi over the PDN, but the choppy UI bothers me. Aldiko is the best app I've tested, so far.EDIT: Choppy UI was due to the animated wallpaper. Duh, stupid me. Removed that and much improved.EDIT #2: The brightness setting does NOT work in Aldiko. You either get 100% brightness, or zero %, no inbetween. That's not good.

When the power is off, if you hold the home and power keys together it will boot to recovery. You will see an android with an exclamation mark. Press home and you get a recovery menu that you can't navigate. That's why I took mine back, I don't think any firmware will be able to be loadedSent from my Droid using Tapatalk
I'm using the Android SDK on my Ubuntu system - when you connect the device to USB, it doesn't automagically mount - you have to go to the "Notifications" area to finish the connection. I don't know if I really like that versus the auto-mount, but no biggie.
i get an error./adb devicesList of devices attached ???????????? no permissions./adb shellerror: insufficient permissions for device
Not certain. I never even tried to use the Markerplace - as soon as I got the thing powered up, I connected the USB cable to get some apps on it. I initially noticed that the List of Devices attached was blank, then found the Notifications area to mount. Once I did that, I was able to connect / install apps with adb.Again, keep in mind that I'm using the Android SDK on Ubuntu Lucid, so maybe there are issues with using the Windows version? (if that's what you're using)

try ./adb root./adb shellis the adb daemon started?
make sure usb debugging is turned on. ----> settings ---> applications -----> development --->usb debugging
My bad, you're using Linux most likely - I should have known because of the ./I'm also running Virtualbox, which makes some changes to my USB permissions, if memory serves. This might be the reason why I don't get the ACLs issues that you do - try your command with "sudo" just to see if it connects. Assuming it does, try a quick google about Vbox and USB permissions, it might point you in the right direction.
i think i needed to sudo adb... didn't realize i needed to be root... thanks

I'm wondering if this is an overall better device. It seems like the wifi is more stable on the Augen, it comes with a nice case, and it is running Android 2.1, but other than that it seems worse in every other way. Of course I don't own one, but could be tempted to pick one up if that is not the case!

I'm trying to do a direct comparison, and maybe wait for the new firmware, before I write up a detailed post.So far, the Augen has better Wifi (no power up / sleep issues), has a proper notification bar, it probably performs better overall (ie CPU and also 2.1 OS), and the case is a plus. And it plays WMA's OOTB and I believe video playback is better, but still testing that. But, the PDN has an accelerometer, ACW comic reader works (it doesn't on the Gentouch), it's more solid (which I like), has a proper 3.5mm headphone jack, side buttons which I like better, and isn't warm to the touch like the Gentouch is. I think it's going to come down to the apps - ie I would prefer a working comic book reader over 720p video, so the PDN might be the one I end up keeping.

You shouldn't have to use root - I was just suggesting using sudo just to confirm that it's an ACLs issue and not something else. I don't have to use sudo for adb.
Please indicate if your PDN is overclocked or not. And IF it is overclocked please tell us the clock freq setting, or what appears to be set.
I have the su hack on both devices. The gentouch is scaling on demand, min 166 max 600. The PDN is scaling conservative, min 66 max 800.

[quote name='Noah98;25633]Can you browse with the Augen in portrait view? Also' date=' would an older version of ACV work? Last question, how does the battery life compare?[/QUOTE'] I haven't quite figured out portrait view, yet. It seems to get activated on the home screen depending on the app you use, and then stays that way. I also noticed that the notification bar doesn't work when this happens. I actually need to try a newer version of ACV and will report that version number when I do it.Battery life is low on my list, tbh. Most of its use for me is at home, close to a plug. As long it's it's more than a few hours, it's all good. I'm more worried about application functionality.

I never had to do su for adb. I use sabayon linux. If you add the adb tools to your path you can drop the ./http://linux.about.com/od/linux101/l/blnewbie3_1_4.htm
From the posts I have seen with a tech support agent there is a accelerometer however they said it only works in the picture viewer. Hopefully it will have a lower level function in the future.
