Market Unfixed?

3390 Views 20 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  mogrith
So, I had the market fixed this morning, but things got wonky again this afternoon and I'm back to the "starting download" for infinity hang issue thingie. Should I re-market-fix my gentouch or should I assume the problem is on Google's end and wait for a while? Your thoughts & advice are greatly appreciated.

I'm rocking v3 on both... Just started wondering about that-- does replacing the market fix Vending.apk with the clockworkmod v3 Vending.apk un-fix the market?

Yes, it does replace the Vending.apk and fix the cache issue.. BUT we are finding that you STILL may need to do the AndroidID assignment.CPG
hmm... well, I re-fixed the market and things seem to be holding w/o need for an androidid. we'll see. Right now, my process is1. Linc's Augen Update v32. ClockworkMod v33. Market Fix steps 1-18 After step 3 (with the fixed market holding it together over restart(s), per instructions, I jump ahead)... I jump to step 30 which is where things get a little wonky again... Specifically, "busybox umount /cache" is not understood... Not necessarily a bad thing, I mean, everything is working now, but no thanks to me... I'm think that Lincs' fixed Vending/Cache might render the last few steps of the market fix pointless. Could that be right?Anyhow, I'm happy-- things seem to be working again, but I thought I'd put this out there just in case my steps were horribly wrong or in case we need to update the market fix site... who does that? Thanks guys, I'm learning a lot.

Linc's update includes the vending.apk and does cache fix on each reboot. CPG
Well, don't know what to say... Market worked for three or four power cycles, now it's broken again. Any ideas why it would go bad?

would you need to re assign the android ID after the V3 fix? even if you had done it after V2?J

Does your device show you have an id when you run the command to find it?CPG

Nope, I've been avoiding that step because of all the extra tech-work that will require. That said, as I'm gathering it's a necessary step, I guess I know what I've got to do... Poop. Well, hopefully this won't be as difficult as I'm imagining it will be.
I just thought I'd post an update just in case anyone has been following this thread and to encourage anyone who has been on the fence about taking on the market fix (inclusive of the AndroidID generation step) to DO IT!!!I finally bit the bullet and generated my AndroidId-- I followed all the steps (including the tangential directions on how to get the ADB and AndroidSDK rocking) found at augendev.wikispaces.com, all the way up to step 29 (at which point the rest of the directions are no longer necessary thanks to linckraker and his v3 update) exactly as described in the market fix... I did the part where I generated and inserted the resulting AndroidId into my Augen, and now I have a (hopefully permanently) working market...For anyone contemplating weather or not to perform the market fix because it looks too difficult-- I say, DO IT! It's not that hard, but it will take you a while... (Mind you, I'm primarily a mac user and a competent operator of computers, but I am by no means a programmer... This is doable! Go for it!)The instructions are at times a little to vague for the faint of heart, but once you get the extraordinarily slow downloads done, the process is actually pretty simple-- you can logic your way through them... Read ahead to understand what you're doing in context, it'll come together for you. That said-- Two quick words of warning:1. Make sure your USB Debugging is ON-- mine wasn't ON and as such, I was spinning my wheels for a good long while until I figured out there was a problem... To check on that-- on your Gentouch, go into your settings, then go to Applications, and then check that the debugging option is ON in the DEVELOPMENT sub-menu... If USB Debugging is not on, all those "ADB" steps aren't going to work. 2. When you're typing in those shell commands-- there are a lot of spaces between commands (adb etc) and their targets (/sdcard etc) that aren't obvious. Just be aware-- if it looks like the instructions say that you should type in, "command /target" be careful not to miss the space-- the font on the site can make it hard to see.So guys-- thanks to all the real brains who are making this thing go... I was really close to buying an iPad a week ago-- now I'm really glad I didn't, my Augen is doing so well! Thank you all so much!

The market fix has nothing to do with your apps or settings. It doesn't do anything to any of your data.CPG

which market fix you are talking about?the one from augendev-you gotta reset your device and it deletes everything/settings
the one from augendev-you gotta reset your device and it deletes everything/settings
What market fix are you talking about? which step? they are numbered 1-35 on augendev. I don't see what you are talking about.
I'm with Mogrith on this one-- I had no such problem when following the augendev instructions... Sure, I wiped out my system when I was installing the official Augen update, but nothing got deleted in the market fix process.
I think he's taking about step 8 "rm -r *" if you were patching several things at once and didnt check you tablet until AFTER the market fix you could draw the assumption that THAT is what killed everything, when in fact I think its the "root" instructions that kill things, but I could be wrong its been a whileHEY CBG: You mentioned in an earlier post, did I run the command on the device that shows my droidID. as amatter of fact I have NOT, I made the assumption, that since I was able to get INTO the market, do a search and start a download that my ID was ok (because I couldnt do that before) however if you will post that command for me I'll run it ASAP!thanksj
