I notice that the Teclast and a few other tablets are being advertised with G+G which I'm assuming means "full glass" : anyone know what the definition is?

#6 · (Edited by Moderator)
I'm struggling to get to the bottom of this too dryster. My first instinct was it had something to do with Gorilla glass (wrong, it is Glass + Glass rather than Glass + Plastic, even though the glass does seem to be similarly toughened).

There's a lot of comment (translated via Bing translations, so who knows how accurate) to the effect that the G+G is fundamentally similar to the iPad2 IPS screen. For example with the Teclast linked shop for the P75a:

"P75a configuration 800x480TFT, a 7-inch screen, and the introduction of a new generation of multi-point capacitance touch screen flat, super light transmittance, touch-responsive, precise positioning. Touch panel using the same structure the iPAD2 principle of double glass panel technology, using advanced laser etching technology and pure graphic design, slide touch, sensitive and accurate, and eliminate any operation "dead ends". Panel material is high-strength tempered glass, very high hardness, no foil have to worry about is smudging. Whether playing games or any other software application, P75a manipulation of smooth touch can make you feel comfortable"

Yet the P75HD doesn't mention G+G when they talk about its IPS screen:

"P75HD HD screen 7-inch IPS, hard screen technology IPS LCD technology is by far the most advanced in the world. Compared with traditional soft LCD, hard IPS LCD with faster response times, even images without Echo, the response speed, color, offsets, 178-free Omni-directional visual characteristics. Whether through pictures, watch movies, browse the Web, play games, have a very visual experience effects. Screen resolutions up to 1024x600 and P75HD. When browsing the Web can achieve full page views without having to drag. Watch the clarity of the picture or video later, richer detail, is the highest level of current Tablet PC screen"

Now the wording for the A10 9.7" device (the one with the Allwinner A10 processor) is very interesting:

"Original, 9.7-inch IPS capacitive screen fully compatible with iPAD

A10 dual-core full view IPS uses a 9.7-inch original big screen, screen ratio of 4:3. Area is an ordinary 7-inch Tablet 16:10 more than twice times! Hard screen technology IPS LCD technology is by far the most advanced in the world. Compared with traditional soft LCD, hard IPS LCD with faster response times, even images without Echo, the response speed, color, offsets, 178-free Omni-directional visual characteristics. Whether through pictures, watch movies, browse the Web, play games, have a very visual experience effects. A10 duo screen not only the Visual area, and screen resolutions up to 1024x768. When browsing the Web can achieve full page views without having to drag. Watch the clarity of the picture or video later, richer detail, is the highest level of current Tablet PC screen"

Notice the 'fully compatible' and the 'hard' LCD?

Now as Teclast also seem to be researching, designing, and manufacturing tablet screens, I 'think' what they have done, is found a way to make 'almost fully compatible' screens to IPS (still dual layers of hard glass), but MUCH cheaper to manufacture, while still providing a superb display with very tough and competent components (no corner cutting or substituting inferior materials).

Ok it's conjecture, but I have yet to come across any reference to their G+G screens that isn't highly positive, even though side by side with IPS screens slight differences are noticeable.

As I've used an IPS screen myself recently, I'm curious to get my hands on the P85 now, to see if I'll be able to spot anything detrimental in actual use.

I have a strong suspicion I won't (I have extremely sensitive eyes, and used to check out monitors for customers so they wouldn't get eye strain, so a couple of hours use should tell me a lot).

That's a good reply. I would expect then that G+G tablets may be slightly heavier.

The Ampe A76 I have is definitely P+G with the upper surface being a flexible plastic, bonded to the surface, here are my observations:

ZT-180 was definitely plastic film over glass LCD panel, typical of the resistive screen feel. Warm to the touch
Ampe A76 feels like plastic and when viewed from shallow angle displays mold contours, ie, not completely flat. Warm to feel (plastic)
Eken T01a possible glass, cold to the touch, must be thicker, no contours, same with Elocity.
Ainol Tornados, bezel type arrangement, digitizer over LCD and cold to the touch
iPad, well, tapping it sounds sort of plastic, but it has the cold temperature of glass

Slightly heavier in a 7" tablet isn't such a bad thing, and I know the Ainol bezel can cause issues with dust particles being trapped, so for me, G+G is probably a positive feature of a new tablet.

I experienced this on my unbranded A13 tablet, so I disassembled it, put some alcohol-free screen-cleaning solution on a piece of paper, and carefully pushed it between the plastic and LCD to clean out the dust. Then I cut out several pieces of electrical tape and sealed up the area where the LCD screen meets the front bezel. No more dust so far *knock on wood.*

If it returns, I'll likely grab some silicone or maybe just use hot glue to seal it up.

I picked up a Samsung S5PV210 based tablet cheap that had trouble with it's touchscreen, the original owner took it to Mexico and suffered from high humidity, problems with his phone and tablet. On close inspection, it looked like there were quite a few "invisible" particles between the layers of the resistive screen and the tablet would work, then go crazy as though multiple swipes, touches etc were being executed.

In the end I disconnected the touchscreen and now use the tablet with an air mouse and keyboard, I'm working on a wood case for the thing with a stereo amplifier, my first hybrid. It would be nice to install linux on the thing.

As for my Tornados, not had any issues with the screen or bezel yet.

Nice! I've been planning something similar to use as a machine for the garage - possibly buying a small piece of lexan and placing it over the screen of whatever device I end up choosing, then carefully sealing it into the enclosure to avoid sawdust and other particles that tend to fly when I'm out there. Love the idea of using a wooden enclosure. As the old saying goes, "If it's wood, it's good!"

Here's the project at the moment :

Output device Television Wood Television set Floor

Wooden "thing" was found at the local thrift store, I put a groove in, some slots for cables, drilled big holes in sides for speakers, smaller holes to retain grilles, speakers and current amp from a pair of cheap powered computer speakers.

Output device Computer Personal computer Gadget Audio equipment

Portrait mode, usual position for radio streaming. iPazzPort remote keyboard and mouse.

Wood Output device Table Gadget Space bar

Landscape, working on a set of "feet" - may go symmetric or assymmetric, not sure yet.

Wood Electrical wiring Audio equipment Gas Machine

Groove and slots and showing the Innards, amplifier soon to be replaced by a better quality mini car amp (winging it's way from China)

Wood Gadget Audio equipment Electricity Electrical wiring

When final I will add a backplane and a tablet retaining clip of some sort (no attachment to tablet)

All good fun and shows that when the touchscreen fails, things can be done.

The project is almost finished, I still need a clean method to retain the tablet (without attaching anything to it) and a couple of wire clips and a clip on wooden back (makes the bass sound better) - overall a happy project with a tablet with no touch screen, RF keyboard/mouse works great, little ten dollar amp from the auction site is great for the unit.

I was on Slatedroid hiatus for a while, as I was an idiot and broke my screen on my A13. Going on Slatedroid just would have exacerbated my irritation until I fixed it.
All working now, and I can post here again without kicking myself!

Nice project, man! That could be very handy in a lot of ways. Are you done with it yet? I use that exact same keyboard/remote for my Raspi running XBMC. Love that little remote.

Have flashed maipan, f900, worked perfect.
Looks like it will run most a13 firmware or firmware can be changed to include the right drivers.
It is prerooted but its permissions are not right, needs permissions changed on sd storage as you
have trouble copying to them .

Sent from my D2-911 using Tapatalk 2

Me a refund from the seller would have gotten a replacement but would have taken 2 months with the seller and I wanted
A replacment not a repaired warrant unit. They freely released firmware to me great company just didn't work out, went

I recently purchased a Kocaso MID M9000 tablet from New Egg. Here is a link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1M80E16107

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this product has an Allwinner A10 or A13 processor. I think it would matter quite a bit when it comes to modding it.

Also, this tablet has firmware updates on MyMIDpad.com. Perhaps knowing these updates are available, it will be possible to crack into the update process to get something like Cyanogen Mod running on them.

Thanks to anyone who replies or assists in any way.
