I was tasked with creating an English Firmware release for the Crystal, and here my first cut. Didn't mess with the UI at all, just removed the Chinese apps, rebranded and fixed permissions.

Use the Lokum App pack to get Chrome and all the region restricted Google Apps.

Can you be more specific about what kinds of screen issues? Thank you.
Got some wierd flickering. I did a total wipe, and it seems to be gone now. Might have been because of my testing.

Edit: Found the cause. It was because I used the wrong updater-binary in one of my update tests. Wrong memory addressing. Totally recreatable too. This is a non-issue now. Dumped the NAND so that I can fiddle with AML Flash if I need too.

Is the Tablet_UI available in this?
I have not done so. I was mandated to change as little as possible, while rooting and making gapps available. I have kept the default phablet Launcher.

I will be pushing out a new update today, now that I have tested more.

Did you make the mistake of trying to use any of your old scripts (updater-binaries)? I did. I managed to make my screen flicker and do weird things. Totally re-creatable too. But it scared the crap out of me until I realized the problem.

Are you basing your ROM on AOSP or Cyanogenmod? I'm sticking to the AOSP stuff I have already compiled.

I see.

I only got stuck trying to root the ROM. I did a separate rooting patch before, that worked just fine but I had to do it differently in the rom installing process. I don't use many custom scripts, I mostly edit the file structure and config files. I take the official content and replace, edit it with stuff from CM9,CM10 and patches for other devices.
I don't do source mods and compiling other than apk decompile/edit/recompile.

Hi Pat Moss,

Tried flashing this rom onto my Crystal (got it today), but it fails the checks and aborts the install.

Thanks

Some questions regarding this:
1. Is it possible to change the model number in 'About Tablet' back to Crystal instead of Nexus, without affecting Google Play compatibility?
2. Does rooting void the warranty - can I unroot and reinstall the official firmware if needed?

Go back into recovery and 'wipe media'. This ROM resizes the system area.

I install today Version 04 and work very good without any problem.
Good job and I can't wait for V05 release with the full 4.1.2.
