Is everyone a little happier with the patches & updates that Augen put out yesterday. It would have been nice to have a full firmware update or gone to Android 2.2 but some fixes are great to have. The Gen78 seems a little more usable & stable. I rather like this tablet now. I was thinking about returning it bur I think I will keep it now. So what do you think? Is it a keeper or not? Are you glad you didn't return it?

I'm happy with my Gentouch-- I would love to get some soft volume & manual rotate buttons going, but all things considered, I'm really impressed. Now if china would just make some 7" anti-gloss screen protectors, I'd be stoked.
Sad to say mine is going back. After the news of the pirated market place, I am going to get my money back from Kmart. If I wanted to hack and pirate the hell out of one of these tablets, I would have bought a cheeper one from China. No Accelorometer, no memory fix, now illegal software. I am tossing this thing back and demanding my lay-a-way money back as well.

You could go get a Pandigital Novel, but just as much hacking etc is needed (more even, since this is sold as an eReader). If you havent read, Augen has spoke with Google. And once again, because this device was pushed out a month earlier, the software on it was what was loaded at the Chinese factory. Augen has been, and will continue to be releasing patches to improve the Gentouch78 experience. Within the first 7 days, they have fixed several of the big issues, so I do have some faith they will follow through. CPG

I'm not happy, but that's simply because I can't manage to get my sticky fingers on one.xauelous is correct. You simply cannot get a similiarly specced Android tablet any cheaper (+sh +maybe duty) from China. About the only other option is the Witstech A81 E based tablets with a Cortex A8, but if you think that the GT fw is flakey, A81 E will be much worse, as they're now, apparently, only working on getting 2.2 onto them and have stopped working with 2.1. Their wince 6 is unlicensed according to mp4nation as well, as I suspect is every other Chinese wince(and I do) tablet. mp4nation this explicitly as the reason that they would NOT be making the wince fw available for their re-brand.As to any tablet regardless of specs, may as well try to find deal codes from kohls or BBB and pick up a PDN... it's a bit better than the super cheap non-RK2808 Chinese tablets, but the Rockchip tablets are permanently stuck at Android 1.5 ATM, while I observe than some brave people are attempting to build froyo from sources for the PDN although they seem to be a bit haphazard ATM as I have noticed any identification of support chips/SoC components and drivers required for it...
Uhhhh thanks? We just started working on it yesterday and video is already back to working, and audio is getting there as well, which I would say is decent progress for a day. We've known all the components for quite a while now too.cutterjohn;32886 said:

I can't get one either. Frankly, that's the biggest problem. By the time people can reliably get these, the new hotness will hit. I'm still waiting to get a feel for the build quality, though the Dawa ancestry doesn't leave me enthused. I can imagine the patches and all have helped a lot. Honestly the market issue shouldn't be all that bothersome, IMO.

Thank you. I just ordered one for expedited shipping. Little more expensive than with the raincheck but I worry that my area might be left out of the next shipment. And the next next shipment will arrive without the google apps. Admittedly the internet offers solutions to all things but I'd prefer to not have to deal with that. Who knows, maybe the shipment will arrive tomorrow and I can cancel my order.
