I just grabbed one of these off eBay - looks identical to all the photos etc, but doesn't have the word "Eken" anyplace on it - is it the same device?Can I install the Eken firmware?Will I suffer the "Demo Version" lock problem ( http://projectgus.com/2010/07/eken-m001-phone-home/ ) ?

Yes, but to make sure, see if it has the Via processor. I've noticed they come in two body styles, one with the red piece in the main button cluster without the EKEN logo, and one that has the silver piece WITH the EKEN logo. No difference internally, though.

I've flashed mine with the official Eken firmware without issue, and I believe i have the same as you, no mention of Eken on it, and came in a yellow box labeled MID E-Book.

Generally...yes. I have a "no-name" Eken M001. I updated it to v1.7.4 official and then a few days later updated it again to Slatedroid 1.3. All updates went fine from 8GB SDs with loads of other files on them. Came in the same yellow box. I wonder why they aren't branded "Eken"? Knock-offs?Mine is in my avatar, with a solarised photo of me as the wall paper.
