In looking at the pictures that have been taken it appears there is no antenna at all. If that is the case that is the problem right there. Should be easy enough to fix, but from the current pictures I cannot see the two antenna solder joints.
Do you think this is the reason I cannot tether my M001 to my Android phone? I REALLY WANT TO BE ABLE TO TETHER THIS TO MY PHONE ???. If this is impossible I need to find another 7 incher :'( YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.

I have a mod in mind but need to know exactly what points on the wifi module to solder some wire to. This can then be either looped around the inside of the case, or if you drilled a hole in the outside of the casing, the wire could end with an antenna connector to connect an external hi-gain wifi antenna.
pretty sure its that trace on the bottom right, the ones with the holes.?
If that is the antenna, no wonder wifi reception is lousy! >
YEs,I think this gold square plate it's the antenna loop or gamma mach, The way could be possible cutting at start this plate and put and sma or a simple dipole but. but i don't sure ... Willbe better a more resolution photo or near real view with my eyes.
Wifi reception on mine seems fine, may be somthing too do with the location of the wifi module more than the antenna its self, take a look at my dissasembely video, you will see what I mean.

Id love some instruction on where to drop a bit of solder on a wire to get that elusive signal.
I have to say that my wifi reception is pretty good with my m001. Pretty much the same as most other wifi devices. Based on the unit's design, I wonder if the issues are just poor quality wifi usb sticks... instead of adding an antenna, have you considered just replacing the usb stick with a better quality stick that has the same chipset.
The reception on my device is probably the biggest issue that I have with the device. I mean I can be 30 feet away where my laptop says 'Very Good' and the M001 doesnt even register my network.I just dont get it... It would be really great if we could figure out whats going on here.

You can see the Wifi antenna..
I don't know about anyone else but it is not clear to me. Can you clue me in?
Which is the anntenna? one of the 4 wires at the top or the gold plate at the bottom?

The wires at the top are the usb connection (4 wires), this is actually a PCB made for an USB stick.
The Wii uses two antennas internally which look similar to this one, but I dont know how easy it is to build another antenna, it probably is very dependant on size and shape!
Just remember that since WIFI works on RF signalling you can't just throw any cable or Length. The spectrum would be severaly scewed if not done correctly.
