Hi,if your eken m001 has hot back while wifi is active, you can simply change it.This is coused by wifi card, wich is set up to burn wifi at 100 mW which is upper limit for most EU countries (others?). You can safetly change it. I've changed it to 20mW and now, my eken isn't hot.To change it, you have to have rooted eken with custom firmware found on this forum, then install ES File Explorer, navigate to /system/etc/Wireless/RT2870STA/ and open file RT2870STA.dat as text file. Find line starting with TxPower and change the number from 100 to more or less 20. Then reboot. Now you shouldn burn your hand while hanging your eken, also the battery would work longer while wifi is on.Best regards,Grzegorz Szostakhttp://www.szosti.eu/

Is is the kind if tis i have come to enjoy here. Since joining this forum i have improved my m001 considerably. Slatedroid rom is faster although I get halts after closing programs now and then figure it's android lol. I am amazed at all the work people put in here. Thanks guysDave

I have a rev 7 M001 and i re-positioned the wifi card to the very bottom (it was directly under the speaker before.) I still have a hotspot on the back in the middle though. I simply attributed it to the processor. I don't really base that on anything, just saying. It would be nice to get some before and after tests though.If it does work out to be worthwhile I would like to see ECO or Willo implement this fix by default.

Check other devices (I have some 7+ experience in WiFi). Simple soho routers has max 50mw power. More TxPower increases noise and lowers signal quality. To get best results, you must test it by your self.

This really seems to help. I am getting more bars, so signal strength seems better. Back warm, not hot. I'm hoping for better battery life because the wifi previously sucked a lot of juice.

Does this hurt? WIFI signal? and performance? I will put this on my mod. which is slatedroid + eco mix with root. on 1.7.4.
If wifi chip will output more power (TxPower) it will produce more noice, which will affect quality of wireless connection. So lowering TxPower should increase performance. Why? Tx means transmit. Rx means receive. TxPower could be read as "loudness" of the device over WiFi channel. Router has its own parameter for "hearing" devices. All what we must do is to talk from device with enough power to be heard by router. We don't need to talk to loud. Every WiFi device has other parameter which influences on performance. It is sensitivity of the receiver. This parameter is hardware specific and we can not affect it.

Will this only work for an Eken? I have a generic black-backed ePad clone which has appalling battery life and a back that could be used to keep my dinner warm Anything that could help would be awesome!

Great tip .. with some trial to my "environment" I settled for a 75% reduced a little heat and increased a little batery life with the same reception I had before. thanks !!!!

dkelewae my M003 would take forever to return to home screen. I installed Ecotox's rooted rom and was able to get Swapper to turn on and using 256mb and swappiness of 100 and now no matter what I open it takes 0 to 1 sec to return to home screen. All apps open faster now also. Swap Rules! And thanks to grzecho I'll be running cooler and longer. NOT sure but my Bluetooth Icon is showing up after trying to turn it on with ES File Explorer. I think I can use ES to remove unwanted apk files from system...

not sure if it decreased strength, I was able to stand in the spot that works and 1 foot later doesn't and it moved maybe 1 foot closer....? any way to test it, besides that? Does placing # act as comment? I just added # and add the 20 statement. Thanks for the info.
