NOTE: THE PROCEDURE BELOW WILL BLACK SCREEN YOUR TABLET WHEN TRYING IT WITH THE LATEST CHUWI FIRMWARE FOR THE CLASSIC V88 (firmware date 12/10/13). I'M NOT SURE ABOUT OTHER MODELS. I HAVE CONFIRMED THAT USING THE TPSPARKROOT.BAT SCRIPT DOES WORK (SEE POST #16 OF THIS THREAD).

Thanks goes out to Oma for creating this great script that will provide root and install SuperUser.

Oma Root Method file location link here.

Instructions:

1. Copy Oma_Chuwi_V88_Root_Script.zip to the root directory of you SDcard.
2. Make sure that settings are to MTP and USB-Debugging
3. Hard power off your Chuwi V88 (hold power button until it powers off)
4. While holding Volume+ (up) button
5. Plug USB into your PC (update mode)
6. Install missing drivers from driver folder if you have not already
7. Run RKAndroidTool.exe as Admin
8. Unselect option 2 (Parameter)
9. Select Flash Rom
10. Your Chuwi V88 should now have booted into Clock Work Mod.
11. Select Install zip from external SDcard
12. Scroll and install Oma_Chuwi_V88_Root_Script.zip
14. Reboot device (you will now have Super User installed and working)

Have fun!

Hello,

I'm rather new to the android tablet scene, so I've got a nob question.
What is the beneefit of rooting the device ?
Will rooting mean that you can't update any firmware at a later stage ?

although i received the instruction via PM, the instructed was to use pda.net on both pc and android, and push rootpackage (adb script),

but i have done a different way. here is what i do.

1. install moborobo, for driver, im on win7 64bit, rockchip driver not work for me, moborobo install the correct driver
2. install zhoudashi or shuame (chinese software, pick one) on PC
3. open the installled chinese software on #2, wait until the device detected,
---------on shuame, click as below, wait and your tablet will be rooted.

---------on zhoudashi, click as belo, wait and your tablet will be rooted.

Done,

PS: shuame using propetiary chinese root software (chinese in root software UI), zhuodashi using standar superuser.

Shuame download: http://dl.shuame.com/files/1.0.9/ShuameSetup_1.0.9_general.exe
Zhuodashi download: http://tabletrepublic.com/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=145

Thanks.

Tony,

To answer your question, no, rooting won't disallow you from updating your firmware at a later stage.

This link will provide you some basics as to the benefit of rooting your tablet.

Thanks,

arielp,

Tried this procedures and even though Zhoudashi indicated I had root, the Root Check app indicated I did not. I used the Moborobo to install the driver and Zhoudashi v2.2.9 to get root. BTW, your hyperlink to the Moborobo app in the YouTube video is a dead link.

Can someone confirm that the above procedure works when trying to root Android OS 4.2.2 and/or provide a procedure that works?

Thanks,

Joker.slate,

Thanks for the write-up. It did work however below are some clarifications.

1. I installed the ADB drivers from here.
2. Reboot PC

If the ADB drivers installed correctly, when you plug in your tablet and go to Device Manager you should see the following (note I believe the ADB Interface drivers will only be listed under Device Manager when your tablet is connected to your PC):

3. The link above is not working. I was able to DL the TPSparkRoot-4.1.1.rar from here.
4. Decompress/extract folder onto desktop
3. Install Moborobo (install from here) and use program to install the correct drivers (CW-V88-QUAD)
4. With Moborob still open, go to extracted TPSparkRoot folder on your desktop and click on "TPSparkRoot"
5. Allow batch program to reboot your tablet and then press "space" to push the SuperUser, RootExplorer and Busybox apk to your tablet
6. Wait for batch program to indicate tablet is rooted (see pic below)
7. DL "Root Checker" from Google Play to confirm you are rooted
8. Done

Hope this helps out people getting root with Android 4.2.2

Dantek,

Check out this vid and guideand let us know it it works. BTW, it's odd that apps keep asking for root. You should be able to permanent grant root permission for any app which should cause it not to ask for root permission any more. I don't have any issues with apps continually asking for root.

Received my Chuwi v88 in the mail yesterday. Looks like I got a decent copy. No weird issues so far. Firmware dated May 23rd (4.1.1).

Anyway, I managed to root the Chuwi using Moborobo drivers and the Shuodashi software. However, it seems that Shuodashi installed some kind of chinese 'superuser app' on the Chuwi. Now, whenever a program asks for root, I get a chinese popup window that asks me if I want to grant the program root access (at least I think this is what the popup says). This is a little annoying.

So my question (which might be stupid) is this: Can I uninstall the chinese shudashi 'superuser app' from my tablet without losing root access?

This chinese pop-up is the reason I want to unroot mine.
