Just saw how to do this in a GT78 thread. http://www.slatedroid.com/augen-gentouch78/4681-steps-surprisingly-snappy-device.html9. Remove all Telephony or non-wifi data services. (this might wreck your Market, so back up)From your command line (sdk-tools)adb remountadb devicesEdit------------------------------if you want to save your file before removing them. (you do right?)adb pull /sysem/app/TelephonyProvider.apkadb pull /sysem/app/Phone.apkadb pull /sysem/app/TalkProvider.apkadb pull /sysem/app/Talk.apkadb pull /sysem/app/gtalkservice.apkEdit-----------------------------------------adb shell#cd /system/app (this will change your disk to system/app you may also change to another folder as well)#ls -a#rm Telephonyprovider.apk#rm Phone.apk#rm TalkProvider.apk#rm Talk.apk#rm gtalkservice.apk (may not need to do this one...just for good measure)#exitadb rebootif you don't know what adb is see this forum for help Android Debug Bridge (adb)
System is so much faster now, responsiveness is really better.I've been thinking about romoving the GoogleSearch*** apps, Can the system be crashed by doing this? Some apks depending on it?BTW. I'm running the CaffeineROM v1.0, it's a bit modified now, but the base system is that. Tryin' to get the more streamlinead system to improve performance.
Turning on 256mb of swap and 100 for swappiness settings is a HUGE performance boost. Use terminal command free to verify setting work. My ECOTOX rom is rooted, but auto ON for swapper doesn't work. So I have to turn on manually. EKEN+SWAP=HappinessSent from my Eken M003 using Tapatalk
Would root explorer allow me to remove these apps? Maybe just cut/paste into a temp hold directory? Sent from my Eken M003 using Tapatalk
This post seems to be really interesting. I m going to receice m003 soon so i would like to be ready to put in the best performance condition.Since the procedures your saying seem to have a good impact on performance, could some one sum up them and explain a little bit more in details in order to help newbyes??If i correctly underatood, i would do these things on my m003 to improve it:- flash ecotox rom- overclock (or not?can you advise on this and also how to proceed?)- work on swap (how?)- renove useless process from start up(this should relate to adb?could someone give an explanation of the procesure?)I suggest this post could be put in sticky. Please help, thank you very much in advance!
Hello everyone,I did these commands and now the device stucks on the "android" booting logo!what can i do?
I went from ecotox to new caffeine, both rock. I haven't found any overclocking method that works. YES get rooted ROM, and SWAP set to 100 for swappiness. No need to worry as much about useless process, but look at MINFREEMANAGER app, seems to help, I just started using newest caffeine and its preloaded. Use all the browsers you can, install 1000 apps, figure out what you like, flash new ROMS, learn to tweak. Eken M003 at its price is awesome!
BElieve me, I've boutght it at a very cheap price, just 147 $ included shipment, but the main advantage was that in my currency , EUR, it was just 111 and it was shipped by UK, so no customs =).I'm just waiting to receive this, it should come next week, so i just wanted to be ready to configure it in the best way to have good performances.I know everyone would say different things, because everyone has his own taste. but there are some things that all of you are saying are to be done, e.g. swap, overclock, remove startup processes, and i would like to understand how to do all of this. I think i will put ECOTOX rom.I've read the to-do in wiki, but there are still many things that i don't understand. For example with setcpu, when you talk about a custom kernel to overclock, you mean custom roms? for example ecotox? would it work in that case? And about the market, Ecotox 1.3.1 says market working. But do i have to get my ID anyway with that long procedure with Android emulator? And when you say SDK installed you mean on PC or on the m003? I'm reading carefully all the post so far in the forum, but it is a long work...

removig gtalk/phone apks makes com.android.gapps crashs all the time. Is there some config to do for a safe remove?Maybe we should work on a streamlining wiki. Don't known about you, but I'm ok in reducing eyecandiness for a better performance Sent from my CaffeineROM M003 using Tapatalk
dj3go83, None of the current ROM has a modified kernel to allow overclocking. Here is my list of things to do with a new M003. I've had my Eken M003 for about a month and am running my 4th ROM. Here is my lessons learn/ Guide to Ekenness/ Android-ing step1. Get at least 1 microSD card, class 6 is would be best price/performance a card reader, USB hub, usb keyboard, usb mouse, stand to hold Eken. First download as many apps (APK) for non Android Market websites. I've had great results using giganews and am currently grabbing 2.2gb of apps from LINK at codehacks.org2nd play with original ROM, that was the only one I got bluetooth to work, and run a few program, install, hack, try everything out. Goal is to learn device, open and try all options. 3rd use a few different back up programs to save all apps to SD so you can reinstall easily. Install first custom ROM. Root, enable swap, memory manage program, run all favorite apps, install more apps. 4th another ROM5th another ROMAlways get rooted, turn on swap, and experiment with memory management. I haven't determined if its making a big difference, but it is working good. By the 4th ROM, you have figured out root and swap, got your favorite apps ready to install from SD. We'll be installing news ROMS, and hopefully updates kernels for quite sometime. Don't stick to one ROM, use them all, try out everything they throw on this forum. Its like getting a new toy. If you need an tablet for serious work, buy another one. One for hack/mod/experimenting and post all your findings. Other just for stable tableteering. SDK is a program you will install to you PC, it will run emulation of Android. I use it to download from market, and then transfer to my Eken. I can't get Dropbox to work, so I've been emailing to my gmail. So far to get ID you'll have to use LONG version. I try to download all apps from other websites. If you start a blog, you can save all the websites link, how-to guides, and some apk on it. tabletuser.blogspot.com is mine.Good luck, have fun, give us feedback on what you find.

The kernel is something else than a custom Rom.to make it a dev group will need source code that they do not yet have. Simplified Kernel is low level talks direct to hardware. Rom is at a higher level asks kernel to do something and kernel tells hardware what to do.SetCPU w/o kernel change can change MinCPU speed up. Low min cpu uses less battery but takes time to switch to high cpu speed when make pad do something. It can max Max CPU LOWER saves power but is slower. You can set Max higher but it wont really run any faster. need to make wiki stuff on this.2. He meant market will open and you can search apps and stuff w/o crashing. You will need to do either the get an androidId fix once or the clear goggle apps cache trick every time you want to use the market. 3. Installed on your PC. If you have not done so already install the SDK. Link to sdk sofware Android SDK | Android DevelopersLink to Install manual for sdk Installing the SDK | Android DevelopersJust a note. I installed the SDK for the first time in June. Most of the screen shots I make are from the first or second time I've done it. I did not have a working market when I started writing it. I just did it and wrote about what mistakes I made or had read the some else made. When I find out how to do something I put it in the wiki.
I wonder if running Android inside VirtualBox will have some benefits. Should be able to download apps from market, maybe create a share folder and then setup FTP transfers from desktop to Eken M003? Homemade market? I'm downloading updated LiveCD version of x86 Android and going to try it out on my Linux Virtualbox.Live-Android
By the way in the OP there was a comment about picture capture. It's not for the camera. Tap the eye icon and you get a screen shot stored in the root of /sdcard
