I just got a refurb Pro for eighty bucks from Newegg and I'm very impressed. I was planning on installing a custom rom but so far haven't found it necessary.
Wish I had bought a couple more but they are sold out now. Anyway, its been awhile since anyone has posted here. Anyone have any feedback on recent ROM work? I believe KitKat is out there, but not completely done...
to answer my own question:

Hisense has released the source code! XDA members are working on custom ROM based on KitKat!!

Any of you Hisense Sero owners have the lt version still? I am curious if it's better than the Pandigital Novel white one that I currently own and am frustrated with. Even if it freezes on occasion, it is truly a step up. My spotty internet connection and it's inability to handle anything newer than android 2.1 is a hassle. Ordered it from that place that sounds like a rainforest, and a microsd card. I could be kicking myself, and my wife would say I told you so. The main push is the ac adapter just broke, can't charge it currently. Had just enough gift cards to get me both, cash is tight, plus the pro is only available used.
I don't have the LT. and I would suggest saving up a bit more to upgrade to the Pro or get a Nook HD. I've bought both Nook HD and Sero 7 Pro refurbed or used and they are both great. Got them for seventy to eighty bucks each. Anyway, to answer your question, I'm sure the Sero LT would be a good upgrade from the Pandigital Novel. The Pandigital Novel was my first android device, I paid about 200 bucks for it back in the day. I bought a couple more over time for much, much cheaper. I still have a couple of them that work fine for ereaders, but that's about it. I always had terrible wifi issues with them and find them to scratch very easily. They were my first attempts of rooting and custom roms, so they will always have a little place in my heart.

if you don't mind refurbed LT, looks like its available from newegg for fifty four bucks if you can find a coupon:

I like the DoPa rom by dolorespark, and everything works.
Hi LuckyMe! Didn't realize you were a member here! So far I LOVE my Hisense. Faster, sounds better, apps install seemlessly (except for dropbox, had to find a external download for it. Haven't had to hack/root it yet, but I guess when I run out internal space to install apps I might have to. I would reccomend it to past/current Pandigital Novel owners. Still use it when I run the Hisense's battery down. :D

I enjoy playing music(only good) on my Sero7, but I think the speaker doesn't do justice to my music's sound. Other than an external speaker is there an app that would work to help with that, or is an external speaker the best bet. And if I go with a speaker should I get one that plugs in, or a wireless model(Bluetooth)? Just wanted to add that I tried one of those silicon attachments that look like the horns the old people used in the movies. It was louder, but the sound wasn't better. I guess I'm looking for acoustics, not volume.
If you're rooted Viper4Android is great. You have to play around with it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vipercn.viper4android42

or I found a build.prop that increases the speaker volume on the sero. It was posted by metpolds on xda, all credit goes to him, I'm just sharing his good work.

sys build.prop > Speaker volume > Change audio speaker volumes 0-4 to "30"

Leave 5 at 31 (change to 31 if it's lower)

If you're not rooted try Music volume EQ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hr.podlanica

Bluetooth devices pair well with the sero. Although, some just won't work.

the following devices are confirmed by me to work:

Emerson Headset model EM515 - (over the head large padded ear cups)

Emerson headset model EM516 - (small padded ear cups - around the neck)

Creative external table top speaker model D80

BT portable box speaker

non bluetooth external speaker:

iHome plug and play portable speaker model iHM60

if you're in the states big lots is a good place to find most of what I have listed. Walmart carries the iHome brand products also.

Thanks LuckyMe. I'll try the apps first(easier/cheaper). I found a couple of FREE apps, have you heard of either the EqualizerMP3 Volume booster from best security, or Easy eQualizer /Sound booster from 100.5 Appworks? Just wondering if you had any feedback on them. Like I mentioned acoustics are more important than volume. BUT volume is important, too! ^_^
Wonder if its time to get a second one to really experiment with?

I haven't had any experience with those apps. It doesn't hurt to try them. You can always uninstall them if you don't like them. share with us though if you find one you really like.

I have an experiment going on right now with my tablet and wireless charging, using the receiver and dock from the palm pixi charger. . Mine isn't going along very well, as my soldering just won't work. But it is somewhat successful for others.. kind of.

I am rooted, and I will try Viper4Android today. AND my thoughts are that even with the best app, I will still have 1puny speaker. I perused Walmart's speakers online last night, they have plenty at good prices. The right app with a good speaker will be exactly like going to a concert, probably not, but I see a shopping trip to Walmart in my future, today at lunch!
I know this thread is old, but for anyone who stumbles across it later....A few years ago I was able to try a cheap tablet under $100 at a Black Friday Sale, it was very slow, the resolution was subpar, and all together seemed like a poor iPad copy. I erroneously thought all non Apple tablets were like that, the Sero7 changed my mind. It's fast, great resolution, and fun, sometimes you get more than you pay for.

agree!

NVIDIA Tegra 3 Quad-Core Processor

NFC

true GPS

encryption

HDMI

Bluetooth

all for under $150.00. It's a great tablet. Rootable and to date 8 custom roms available.

my antutu score with the DoPa v2.0 custom ROM using the overclocked kernel.

I'm pleased with the Viper4Android, but not the speaker I got. I'll be returning it for a better model.

what speaker did you get?
I picked up a rather inexpensive speaker that I thought was a good deal,(it was the cheapest) its an iHome mini speaker. A small collapsable speaker, it looks like a small accordion. For its size it was ok, just not the sound I'm looking for. They have another speaker, a Gogroove BlueSYNC Hi def speaker with surround sound that I'd like, but it's $150. I'm considering that, or a Maxell Universal, it's around $50. It doesn't say that it has bluetooth, and I'm thinking bluetooth may be the way to go, I prefer to go wireless. Any suggestions, LuckyMe? You hit the bullseye with the Viper4Android.
I have that one. It's ok for certain conditions - like when you are listening to a movie and don't want headphones it works very well. When I go outside to work in the yard I take it too, or the beach. I don't have to worry about sand ruining it. (although I put it in a little drawstring bag)

This is the one I use most of the time. It's not a big fancy system, but has good sound using the viper app for a small area, like my work area or my back porch where we hang out and play darts.
