Somehow amidst all my hacking and restoring, I lost access to the PDReader and PDLauncher apps. They no longer appear in the menu, and attempting to launch from the Homeswitcher or the Browser menu tray produces the "Application has stopped" popup. The apks are still in /system/apps; I've manually deleted and reinstalled them to no avail. This situation has persisted through several resets and restores, of both stock and hacked firmwares (currently on hacked 8/20). I really don't care about the launcher, but I'd like to have Reader back, particularly since the Nook app doesn't work. Any suggestions?

I have this problem too, even the PD sync FC for me now. This issue persists even after clean flashes from the base PD firmware. I'm wondering if the PD apps have a dependency that isn't loading now. After a clean flash b4 adding any new launcher, the PDN doesnt even boot to PDLauncher anymore.

Flash to the original firmware (which will wipe the user data, unfortunately). That's always your last resort. If you haven't wiped the user data yet, maybe Pandigital added something to the new build that requires a change to the user data to function - at least that's my guess.I think I can speak for the other modders when I say that it's hard to test all scenarios. In my case, I usually test with a clean system but obviously everyone's user data partitions are going to be different.

Unfortunately, it's not as simple as "flash the firmware". The issue has persisted through stock installs of the 7/24, 8/6, and 8/20 firmwares. I have to install an alternative launcher just to gain access to the device.

Agreed on the stock firmware - if you are having issues with that, then there might be something wrong with the actual device. I have flashed this thing a gazillion times and I've always been able to get it back to base level with the stock firmware. Also, check the recovery.log once you flash stock - make sure the userdata.img is actually getting wiped.

The reader app never showed up for me until I used BetterCut to glean it from the Activities menu. Procedure: Install either BetterCut or Anycut. Long-hold on open area of Homescreen. Select "Shortcut" /Any(Better)Cut /Acivity /PDReader ...This should give you an icon directly to PDN's stock eReader. The drawer-slide on the bottom has a link to the original Homescreen. I'm using roebeet's 8/27 GE mod and I've lost the PDLauncher in my app drawer too, But it's still there "under the hood" and so is that reader app ... which is still my preferred book reader. The PDLauncher (com.fsc.app.launcher.PDLauncher) still shows up for me under HomeSwitcher, and also under BetterCut too.
