I've got one of these ROBOTPAD: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110552842588i dont seam to find much about this one on this forum, so I've tried several firmwares.I can only try the ones that can be flashed from card, (I noticed that latelly, this is done by software connecting to a pc). this device has a USB port, but if i conect it to a computer (pc or mac) it does nothing.So... i've tried m001, m003 and apad firmwares... none of them gives me touchscreen or homebutton capability... all the rest seams to work (not counting obvius screen issues caused by firmwares with wrong 800x600 res).I have to connect a mouse or keyboard just to unlock screen :(Any thoughts?I know... it was risky... Can i fix it? Is there a firmware for me? it came with 1.7.2Thank you a lot

I have what looks like the same thing, but it is generic with no markings. The manual says M70003 series, and I have seen identical units named Orphan M800. Mine came with the almonst unusable 1.7.2 firmware, but I flashed it with the Eken 003 hacked version of 1.7.4 which made the screen more responsive, but took out the rocker switch, and did something negative to the battery charging system. It added the Android Market, which I thought was nice, but anything I try to download stalls at "Starting Download" so it's not so good for me. I wish I had saved a copy of the 1.7.2 firmware that came with it.

I have continued to search info on this device, but it remains completely generic. It seems nobody wants to support it. Mine came from a bait and switch ebay deal, so I got all my money back and they let me keep the device for free, but I still want to make it as functional as possible.

Below is a copy of a post by rizapn on Slatedroid that explains how to easily root the deviceLHow to root any EKEN or EKEN like without reflashing the whole NAND, or even without modifying any part of it using NAND commandDownload the file from this link : http://u.kaskus.us/5/cw1xz64u.zipREADME.txt :How to ROOT any EKEN or EKEN-like Chinesse iPad without reflashing the whole NANDby [email protected] - June 2010================================================== =====THIS METHOD SHOULD BE VERY SAVE, BUT STILL ... ANY RISK IS YOURS!it is your decision to follow this step, or just read it as a reference ...- extract all files in the rooted-script-only.zip file into your microSD Card script folder- copy uzImage.bin and mvl5_v5t_ramdisk_WM8505.090922.loop.gz file from the original EKEN-M001 1.7.2 updateor from the latest EKEN update- run a normal upgrade process, by putting the microSD card followed by restarting the device- if everything goes normal, you should see an instruction to eject the microSD card and device will be restarted- from your ANDROID, open Terminal, type 'su' ... if it is denied, type su2 and then followed by suWHY THIS METHOD IS VERY SAVE?Because it will inject a temporary OS (linuxrc) into the RAM WITHOUT modifying any part of the NAND.Then, any 'modification' will be done by update.sh, in this case: update.sh will :- rename the original su in the folder /busybox- copy su and su2 files into the /system/bin- that's itsu and su2 files are taken from other forum ...Hope it is usefull,May Allah Bless All of Us,[email protected] - Jakarta.Indonesia

I am a little concerned as i in my haste bought a "Robotpad" from ebay. i was wondering if you could give me a general idea of what it is like. i'm only after a nice looking device that can read ebooks, PDF, word docs surf the internet with satisfactory results and can run android apps. Is this device really just a piece of talked up crap? Also i'm a little concerned that it says 400mhz cpu but I have read that this isnt the case. Is it slow running and useless? I am wondering whether to contact the seller before it arrives. It was cheap but still I don't want tat.

Do not by anything with a VIA chip in it is all I can tell you, make sure you find someone selling with the rockchip in it and have confirmed this with others who have purchased from this source. If you search the forum for rockchip you will find lots of threads about reliable sellers. As for VIA regardless of what it says all VIA8505 are 300mhz and are absolute shit so stay clear of them

I don't need anything to amazing but would like a device that looks good, reads documents, decent internet access, and runs android apps. If this device doesn't do those things to a reasonable degree then I think i'll try and get a refund. Thanks for the feedback

Looks good: Can't help there personal taste. I wish the bezel was smaller but it's ok.Reads Documents: My M003 came with Documents to go so I can view word excel etc. I use droidreader for PDF. Aldiko or Laputa for epubs. Kindle and audible for their native files.Decent internet access: I like the dolphin browser but opera mini is also popular, default mail & calender work fine for me. I can also vpn into work and use vnc to remote into computers. Wi/fi is simple to set up.Runs android apps: Most apps will run. but some of the newer apps require 2.0+ instead of 1.6.Video is not on your list so you will be ok. It barely plays youtube and other video at low res and has few codecs.APAD (rockchip & gpu) is much better in this area.

Unlike many, i'm not really looking for an Ipad clone or copy just a basic tablet that I can cart around reading my work documents (or books if there's time) social networking if there's Wifi and maybe viewing a few photos or other files. It's a bit of a shame youtube is pants on it as that would be an added bonus but I have a HTC desire and that does all of the above but the screen is too small for my documents and ebooks. As for the look of the thing the only reason I got the one that looks like the Ipad is murely for the black border as I figured I could possibly double it up as a digital photo frame when it's sat on my desk. I appreciate you taking time to respond and rest some of my worries,CheersDan
