I posted these pictures for my teardown as well. http://www.slatedroid.com/vbulletin...-Speaker-without-opening-it&p=12722#post12722This mod has made my Apad bearably loud. Here's the way my Apad was built, before the mod. Notice the round speaker in front of the metal grille.
If you get a little flashlight, you can guess how your speaker is positioned. Then all you need to do is just scratch away the plastic with something sharp. I used a flat-head screwdriver on mine so it kind of looks bad. But I had to tear my unit down anyways so it didn't concern me that it looked bad. Now I can put the device down on a surface and I can still hear it. If you are just listening to music, open up 'Audioplayer' and set a custom EQ by hitting 'Menu'. You can get it even louder this way. Here's what it looks like after the mod:
I ended up just about tripling the slot width. It took 10 minutes. I used a combination of tape and my vacuum cleaner to prevent the plastic bits from falling into the unit. I suggest that if you decide to do this mod, you should tilt the unit so that the plastic dust and bits fall away from the unit. Do this in a well ventilated area. The plastic smells and is probably bad for you.
