Hello, I'm Jackie from Minnesota, USA, and I just signed up for the forums! I just started noticing the many new Android tablets coming on to the market from China and I'm very curious about them. I have a couple of friends with an iPad-- nice, but they cost way too much money. Besides, I'm a Linux user and appreciate the idea of open source devices and applications. I was considering getting a laptop or net book, but really I think a tablet device would work just fine for my needs, which aren't too complicated. I would like to surf the 'Net, get e-mail, play music, watch YouTube videos, and download some cool applications from the Android market. I'm amazed by the number of different brands and models of Android tablets out there, and I have no idea which are best, and which specs are important to look for. So I was hoping to get some input on that here. I am looking forward to reading more on these forums!

Hello. I went for the Eken M003, and later a WITS A81E. The M003 is what I've been spending most of my time with. It actually arrives in a somewhat sorry state, but it gets better! The firmware that it ships with is pretty sluggish, Android Market doesn't function properly, etc. However, after working a bit with the official 1.7.4 ROM, rooting the device, fixing Market, and enabling swap, it worked SO much better. All of this was done simply by reading and interacting with the members here. They are a great bunch. Now, many here (as am I) are operating with 1.9 based firmwares. My current favorite is Vestinious M003, but that is just my personal preference. There are a lot of ROMs available. Just find one that suits you. Flashing the M003 is pretty simple. RE the A81E, it's pretty much brand new. I've put a new firmware on it, as well, but it comes pretty fast and functional out of the box. Still getting used to it. Anyway, welcome from a humble newbie who is getting more and more functional by the day.
