I guess this may be a dumb question but why are we trying to use files from 2.1 to add the Google apps? Why can't we use the actual 2.0 versions of the apps and avoid all the incompatibility problems?

Because Android 2.0 only existed for a very short period (I think less than a month) before Google obsoleted it with 2.1. Very few devices were released that were 2.0 as they released with 2.1 instead. The people who made the GE alpha were not able to find the files from a 2.0 device, hence they had to use the 2.1 files and trick the PDN into thinking it a higher sdk level in order for it to accept the 2.1 files.

@jackbox... thanks for the reply...Is there anyway to get the GE files from the 2.0 SDK? The reason I asked was that I just downloaded it from android.com (I was setting up to try some Android development) and wondered if the files clockworx was looking for were in there. It includes a full set of .img files (system.img, userdata.img...) but I was too tired to stay up and figure out if it was useful. Hence the post.

EDIT: Ahh, nevermind....the SDK doesn't include all the Google app goodies.
