Greetings! I am a new user here, first time to post to this forum. I just recently bought and received my Android tablet from Gindart in China. It comes with the following:Android v1.6Kernel v2.6.29SDK v1.7.4VIA MW8505 600MHz CPU128MB DDR2 RAM (800MHz)2GB storageSupports 16GB MicroSDWi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n7" TFT LCD 16:9 800x4801.3M CameraAccelerometer Gravity SensorBuilt-in Speaker and MicWhile the device has been working pretty well for the most part, there are a few issues, as well.#1 - MicroSD card support is less than stellar. Problems persist with my 16GB SD card dismounting by itself, though it remains firmly seated in its slot. This usually happens during file transfers from my PC to the SD card. When it happens, I have to shut down the tablet, remove the SD card, restart the tablet, re-insert the SD card and then format it again to get it to work. If file transfers complete properly, the tablet will suddenly report the SD card as being only 3GB in size. Not sure if the SD card is the problem, or the tablet itself. SD card works great in my digital camera, however.#2 - Android Market causes the tablet to restart the OS boot process. Tablet comes up fine afterwards, but everytime I try to access the Android Market, the same reboot process occurs. This is very annoying and I wonder if there is an easy fix for this.#3 - Gindart has yet to provide more than a handful of videos on YouTube as support for this device. I realize it is fairly new, but they definitely need to work on the tech support options available if they want to be successful with this device. So I am wondering, since this is a model M-002, would the updated ROMs available here possibly work to update my device? Is it possible for me to modify the XML files myself to fix the Android Market and SD card problems?Any help or advice regarding these issues would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi there,Also new to the forum. I purchased the exact same model and also have a few bugs and looking to upgrade or change the OS.I did however contact the manufacturer/seller and asked them if this could be upgraded to Android 2.1 or 2.2 and the answer was the folowing:"Sorry it could not be upgrade to 2.1 or 2.2 Android, and it's firmware could not support to run."Now I have 2 questions:1) Are they just saying that in order to sell you the tablets with 2.1 already on it because I see that on their website?2) Can anything else be installed on such a device like Fedora for example? Or even Windows...anything at all?Thank you in advance for any answers I really appreciate it.

A quick update to the first two problems. After doing a system reset and trying a new 8GB SD card, it would appear that the 16GB SD card I was using is faulty, which probably caused both problems I was seeing. The new card does not suddenly unmount itself for no apparent reason and I can now enter the Android Market, but apparently no apps will actually download once selected for installation. The tablet states the download is starting for the Kindle app as an example, but the download never actually occurs. I tried to download an update for the Google Map app that comes pre-installed with the tablet as an alternative, but have the same results. The download says it is starting, but it never actually downloads. On a side note, while attempting to enter the Android Market this morning, the tablet rebooted one time after the first attempt, but then allowed me to enter afterwards without rebooting again. I still cannot download any new apps or updates for existing apps, but at least the tablet isn't rebooting everytime.

Installing other firmwares depends a lot on th tablet, some clones just will not flash but others do.You will find customized Android FW'S, Debian Linux and Windows CE availble to flash here, make sure if you are planning to flash that you read the posts and/or ask the dev's.

Ok, after further observation, the reboots are not related the the Android Market. It happened two in a row this afternoon and all I did was turn the device on. So far, I'm a little disappointed in this device with the problems being experienced so far. I would not recommend this model as a first tablet purchase. I don't intend to give up on it just yet, as I feel encouraged by other posts regarding successful fixes on different models of Android Tablets than this one. Hopefully this one will get better, assuming these problems can be ironed out.A question to Roger Calver, if I decided to try flashing this device, would a factory reset be possible in the event the flash was not successful? Can the device be restored to original condition in any other way?

Since I am new here, should I look for this under downloads? Also what is needed to try such a thing? Like which software ca I use to try and update this firmware?

By the way spome quick info. When I check the specs and everything else seems that this tablet might be a clone of the eken m002? The specs look the same and it's the same processor: Operating System:Google Android OS * CPU:VIA VM8505 533MHZ * RAM: 128MB DDR2 533Mhz * Display:7” 16:9 widescreen 800X480 high-brightness TFT LCD * Touch Control: Full size touch operation, Sliding menu, Functional icon dragging * Storage: 2GB(support the Max to 32GB * Orientation Sensor: automatic steering display screen * Wifi:802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi CERTIFIED? network connection * Sound Effect: Stereo speakers device, Built-in micphone * Battery:1600MAH;Standby Time:4 hours;Working Time:2.5 hoursSo would this mean that anything that can be done on the eken m002 would work on this?To top it all off, Cantatta should be able to vouch for this, in back it says m-002. Weird no?

Sorry to post again but it definetely is an Eken m002 or clone. I tested a few things. For fun after reading this post here about the m001 and someone doing it on an m002:http://www.slatedroid.com/eken-m001-windows-ce/2763-[wince]-hopelessness-edition-v0-4-a.htmlI tried to install the Windows CE firmware listed in the post. It installs but unfortunately the version of CE is chinese and the screen does not respond to it.However I then flashed it back to Android 1.6 but with build number 1.7.4 that I downloaded here. No problem and works fine. Don't know if it's my imagination but works a bit better on scrolling? The upgrade is incredibly easy thanks to these scripts. Thank you.So last question then, where could I find a good version of CE that will work with an m002? I have to say that the booting time was reduced to 1/3! I read someone say that his m001 came to life after that...it's true Android seems a little slow on these devices.

What you found was the 'safe mode', you didn't let it finish installing. I'm not sure if there need to be any tweaks done to get WinCE running on an M002 but if you leave it a bit longer and follow my instructions you will be greeted with a lovely English ROM

Too bad othewise boots fast not warm at all like Android, would love to get it working with CE.

After tinkering with this thing for a few more days, I have found a couple of intersting things I'd like to share. First off, the rebooting problem I was experiencing would appear to be related to the auto-synchronize funtion in the Android software. When I turned that off, no more reboots. Second thing this did for me was to open up the Android market so I can download anything I want now, without any problems. The suggestion to clear the caches and Force Stop Google Apps and Google Market don't do anything but cuase more problems, as this reasets the auto-synch funtion, turning it back on. When this happens, my device gets into a perpetual reboot mode, and the only way to stop it is to turn of my wi-fi router until I can get into the System Settings and disable the auto-synch funtion again.Anyway, my Android Tablet is now working better than it has since I got it and I couldn't be happier. Hoepfully this helps some of you other folks with the Android Market and rebooting problems related to 1.7.4. I have not flashed my device (still running stock OS install) and I have not done a factory reset since I figured this out. I hope that some of you other Gindart owners can give this a try to verify my findings. The auto-synch may also be why the Android-based smart phones are having problems with Android Market. If anybody has one and can test my theory out, I'd be interested to know what the results are. If that fixes the problem on the smart phones, I'm sure the folks at Google/Android development would like to know.

Hi to all. I'm new at the forum and also have this model of Android Tablet from Gindart. M-002Like you say, it comes with the 1.7.4 FW version and have some problems (well, at least I had some problems, like Android Market, Youtube and the Wondermedia"Apps Store" for example)I asked to Gindart if there was any FW update and they sent me the 1.9.0 FW version. If you want I can upload the FW they sent me.I flashed the tablet with the new FW and it runs a little better when scrolling but doesn't include the Google Apps (Market, GMail, Maps, etc) by default. :(What I did was firmware mod (or mix) with the 1.9.0 FW and the Google Apps extracted from the 1.7.4 version. The mix was sucessfull. The Youtube problem was fixed installing another version of the "Web FLV" package, replacing the previous. The Android Market was a very tough one, because first you need to root the slate (If you try 'su' with the shell from ADB it says 'su: It must be suid to work properly'). The problem was fixed by flashing again in an special way, because it only modifies the 'su' file and doesn't delete anything.Next you need to get an AndroidID (At this post: Fix Market For Slates - Wiki). Everything was right until the "Enter the androidID into your slate" section, where it says "adb shell sqlite3 /data/data/com.google.android.googleapps/databases/gls.db "update meta set intvalue='number_from_previous_commands' where name='androidId'";"It showed me an "access denied" error, so what I did was to run from the command sqlite3 gls.db "update meta set intvalue='number_from_previous_commands' where name='androidId'"; from the adb directory in the computer, for make the gls.db file in the computer. Next send the file to the tablet with the push command to the SD card ("adb push gls.db /sdcard/" or something like this). After that I got access to the shell with "adb shell", in the shell used the "su" command (previously rooted) and once with the root access I moved the gls.db file to the directory "/data/data/com.google.android.googleapps/databases/" and change the owner and permissions like the accounts.db file located in that directory.Disconnected the tablet and rebooted. After reboot, the tablet asked me to sign in with a Google Account, so I did it (of course with an own account
) and after some seconds started to synchronize (The looping arrows icon) and received an email from Google telling me "Welcome to Android".After all that, I installed and run the MarketEnabler App for fake the Phone Provider (and also for get access to paid Apps
) and with all those steps I could be enable to not only download Apps, also buy Apps. I've already bought one or two Apps from Android Market (Need a GMail and Google Checkcount accounts previously and being signed in).------------------------------Hope this can help you, just tell me if you need the files :)By the way, now I have a question: Does anybody have problems downloading from the WonderMedia "Apps Store"(Not the Android Market) program included? I registered and signed in with the tablet but when it wants to download it show me an Authentication error message and the download doesn't start. This happens me even if I was already logged in. Thank you very much. See ya

I have the exact same model and tried flashing with the Eken m002 Rom. Everything installed fine and the unit starts normally. However, the touch screen does not work. I can connect to the device via USB when it starts, but the tablet will not boot up with the SD card in the slot anymore (I can't try another flash). The card now must be removed before the unit will boot. Are there any ways to flash the tablet via USB? Does anyone have any other thoughts? Thanks.

Seems you have a M002. the forum for discussions is HereThere are several ROMs available for this device Check Forums for latest. downloads section is probable out of date. For an example of flashing a rom see the wiki guide HereBe sure to backup your apps first. It's not required but makes things a lot faster and easier.Your market d/l not ever starting is problem with that can be fixed Fix Market For Slates - WikiI would flash the rom before fixing the market. any further questions would best be asked in the M002 area where people with your device will see the question easier and be more likely to have an answer.Have with with your new slate.
