Well I feel 2.2 will be limited with the hardware in particular the RAM but being greedy getting my hands on the code will give me something to play with I do feel a port will be possible when we have the source to look at.

I'd be surprised if we get any source. However, given the WM8505 userland mods have been hard to reverse engineer, it will be interesting to just see how it's done this time. Of course, given their propensity for weird copy protection schemes, I'm sure there will be a mechanism to try and stop any port from booting on M001-3.

huge performance gains on newer OS. If cpu is staying the same then system would benefit from optimization of java code found in newer OS and to finally be able to bluetooth tether to my cell. bring it at 800 x 600 or higher.

According to Eken (Welcome to Eken(HK) Electronics Co.,Ltd) the specs aren't really different to M001, only the screen size and resolution is increased.The same 128 MB RAM as with M001. So I guess Android 2.2 shouldn't be a problem for M0001 as well?

IIRC, 128mg RAM is the minimum required to run Android and so with 2.1 it will drag it down.Now when you add in animated wallpapers etc it will really show.

Announced the sale by mid-September, to now 15 October, no trace anywhere of M005 with Android 2.2 onboard.

I will have them up by weekend-- sorry for the delay.And no.... they will only have Android 1.6 SDK 1.9.1 and no update is the word I got.It's as far as these seem to be able to go.there was even an M008 released, but same specs, same OS, just 9.7 screen and a lot more money.At least the M005 is cheap and worth looking at for what it is.

I have just received the M005 from ebay:New 8 inch Eken Wi-Fi Mini Laptop Netbook MID Tablet PC on eBay (end time 26-Oct-10 19:56:57 BST)But its on its way back - Looks like the power socket/plug is a dodgy connection as the red charging light sometimes goes off when you touch the plug slightly. Be interesting to see if anyone else had this issue?p.s. any news on a m005 section on this forum ?

I'm going to buy one of them to the same buyer, they claim that it has a ethernet/usb external port, yours included that? there is no photos about that on ebay.

I've had similar issues with my m002 and I know some have had m001's that had the connector short out.

I have had my Eken M005 for about three weeks now and can say with all honesty, it performs as I would expect with the low ram and the VIA processor. Nice little plasticky feeling machine that works fine for casual internet browsing, ereading, and email. Time for Eken to step it up!
