[Custom Boot Animation/Logo + Tutorial] Google Gears

Hi guys, here's my little contribution to the scene.
I was upset with the Flashback's Boot animation (no offense to the dev, but for the life of me... it's ugly!) so i decided to "port" the one i use on my HTC Desire.
So here it is, just copy the bootanimation.zip to your /data/local folder and reboot to enjoy it.

You can either use a file manager (root manager, file manager hd, es file explorer...), i personnally go for the QtADB option (easier way to handle files).
Here's what it will look like:

Edit - 18/Sept/2011:
Just a little video to show the work in progress.
I've managed to change the boot logo, working on a little app to ease the process for everyone atm.

Edit - 19/Sept/2011:
Until i come with a nice solution to reboot in APX mode, please use the following archive to flash a custom splash screen.
Little dirty tut, wait for a better one.

0. Always make a backup / Download and unpack the main archive / Read the whole tut twice before proceeding.

1. If you have already installed the APX drivers and made a backup of your partitions, please go to step 5.

2. Otherwise just power your tab off, then press Volume - and Power On till the screen turns black.
Windows will ask for specific drivers, locate them in the previous unpacked archive. When it's done proceed to the next step.

3. Run 'backup_hannspad.bat' to backup your partitions.
Please save those part?.img somewhere safe. Open the partition.txt and look for the following line: Name=BLO.
Just above, you'll find 'PartitionId=x'.
This number is important, as it tells us which partition holds the Boot LOgo. For me it's partition 7:
PartitionId=7
Name=BLO
DeviceId=19
StartSector=3712
NumSectors=2048
BytesPerSector=2048
4. Once it's done, power off. Then boot once again in APX mode (vol - and power), you might need to do this since sometime the apx command line isn't
really recognized.

5. If your partitionID is not 7, edit the "nvflash_hannspad_splash.bat" from the archive to the relevant number.
Otherwise run it and wait till it's finished. You'll see some progress in the window..

6. When everything is over, just reboot. Yoou should see your new splash screen.

7. If it doesn't work:
- Check the logo.bmp. Your picture must be 1024x600x24bits, check the following section ffor more info.
- Power the tab off, and restart the flash, sometimes apx is peeky.

Hope it helps till we find a better solution.

Quick sum up, for lazy users:
Double check your BLO partition (often 7 on our Hannspad, but could be 6 or Gtablet).
Make a specific bmp, width = 1024, height = 600, and 24bits, save it as logo.bmp
You could also open the one in the archive and edit it to your needs, make sure to keep the settings (1024x600x24).
Reboot the Hannspad in apx with Volume - and Power for a while, till it starts to boot but the screen turns black.
Then run the "nvflash_hannspad_splash.bat" from the archive, it will works just fine.
If your PartitionId is not '7', then you must edit the previous .bat file with the relevant number (for ex, 6).

Reboot and enjoy.
If it doesn't work, post your log or errors here.

Not sure where the 2nd one is kept, whether in the same file, but anyway, the first hannspree logo is (quote from my other thread):

BLO - bootlogo - part7.img (First Hannspree logo - there are two that load up, both identical).

So, partition 7 of the hannspad.

Chief
Also from looking at stock restore V3 the hannspree logo is also in part 9
I have tried to nvflash new logo but no joy yet keep getting error about not finding bootloader.
I am using this command
nvflash --bl bootloader.bin --download 7 (imagename).bmp

I have managed to change second logo via update.zip obtained from the G-tab section of forum
I think you'd have to customise the entire part-7.img file by extracting it in linux, editing the image, remaking it into an .img file, and then nvflashing it over your exsisting partition 7.

Yep, been digging the whole xda gtablet and tegra devices (i'm already a member there), with no luck... yet.
Still got to find another solution.

That's not what i did.
Are you sure that you're using the correct nvflash version? Your bootloader might not be the good one for our Hannspad.

Here's what i've done.
Make a specific bmp, width = 1024, height = 655, and 24bits, save it as logo.bmp
Reboot the Hannspad in apx with Volume - and Power for a while, till it starts to boot but the screen turns black.
Then run the "nvflash_hannspad_splash.bat" from the archive, it will works just fine.
Reboot and enjoy.

Brilliant Many Thanks

Worked a charm, Hannspree logo now gone.
I was trying to flash a image 1024 X 600 not 655 as in your tut, your tutorial makes it so easy
Great news mate

Maybe we can now start to see some nice splash boots. I'm collecting some and gonna make a central topic here and on XDA.
Maybe flooding xda will get some notice from the mods.

Updated 1st post with the original hannspad logo and the google one.
hi!

I have gtabcomb rom.
How zip file I must copy on my tablet, to have the google animations?
and in what directory?
I have a mac, and I don't want to use nvflash.

I understand that with a file manager app, is possible to copy the files on tablet.
it's true?

are there other animations???
In order to get the boot animations, you need to copy the bootanimation.zip in the /data/local folder.

if I find bootanimation.zip with the app ASTRO FILE MANAGER; I found this file in /system/media/
and not in data/local/ like you said me.

where is the correct directory to copy the new zip file?
I try to copy in system/media/ or to delete the original bootanimation, but I receive an error msg.
I must do this operation from adb?
You need to be root and perform the copy/paste/replace/delete operation with SuperUser rights.

Otherwise, it won't work. And actually, you need to use the data/local/ folder.

this directory......is in /sdcard/Android/data/local
????

because I don't have the local folder.
or is in system?

there is a ROOT FILE MANAGER on market?
It's not located on the SDCard. It's system folder, so you need to be rooted to access it. And yes, there's a Root File Manager on the market (paid app), but believe me, it's worth it.
Hey,

I finally managed to get my Custom boot logo and boot animation work
(problem with the animation was that I compressed data in the zip instad of storing)

But only thing that I don´t like is that I still have the Android 3.0 splash inbetween.

I´m on flashback 8.1, so the order normally is: Hannspree Logo, Android 3.0 screen, Flashback animation.
I managed to change the Hannspree logo and the Flashback animation, now I would like to delete or skip the Android 3.0 screen...

As in your video Kameo, you boot into Honeycomb but no Android 3.0 screen.
How did you do that?

Would be great if you had a solution ^^

Awesome work, looks so much better than the Green Hannspree logo! will get that sorted once I've rooted and flashed Honeycomb on to my pad.
@Alucard: I installed FB 8.1 and got the same issue with the 2nd splash screen.

I then flashed partition 9 (which incbined another bmp), but it doesn't seem to work. This "Android 3.0" picture, must be stored somewhere else... we just need more investigation.
