Hello guys,

So i have recently messed up my charging plug in tablet (charger is fine, i tried several chargers), so I was wondering, if there is possibility to charge momo by micro usb port? I know charging times would be much longer, but at the moment it seems to me like better solution, than sending it to china for repair.
Any idea how to unlock it?
Also, do you guys think, there might be some way to "fix" the charging plug by myself?
Thanks in advance, I appreciate all replies.

If it's the same as mine (Momo8 IPS) the 5v power is not wired internally, so there is no way to "enable" it as such unless you're good with soldering on PCB boards and using the MID schematics to work out what goes where.

Alternatively you can buy a replacement DC jack and solder it to the board in place of the broken one.

Here on a popular auction website: www.e*b*a*y.co.uk/itm/290905976591

To be clear, I am NOT the seller of this item.

The battery in the Momo requires too much current to be able to be charged by a typical USB source, so is not possible to do so (without hacking and subsequent risk), replacement is much more realistic, there is a chap over on the Amazon discussion forums for the Momo 8IPS who is offering to replace charging sockets for a very reasonable price:

Think I will try this as my charger socket got damaged while plugged in (common problem) so it tricky to charge. The only issue with doing this AFAIK, is the risk of damaging the host device/computer of the USB socket you are charging from. My advice would be to stick to USB charging mains adapters, and more modern computers (I believe old computers didn't have the power capabilities on their USB sockets, which is why you used to see double plugged cables for external hard drives etc.)

There we go, seems to work just fine! Bit fiddly, but I also managed to fix the dodgy power socket too!

I have not measured the power draw that charging incurs, so if it's too much for the device you charge from, don't blame me!!

I'm sticking to a standard USB socket mains power plug adapter, the Momo comes with a 1.5Amp 5v dc adapter, I'd recommend using similar rated USB adapter, my 1Amp one is now getting a bit hot!!

[Edit#2] I'm now advising that USB charging is probably a bad idea without some sort of limit on current draw, as I measured current drawn from USB charging mains adapter to be ~9W so thats almost 2amps! (~=5v x 2A) and with standard USB2 computer sockets rated at 500mA, there is serious risk of damaging your computer or charger! Whether there is any protection circuits in place inside computers to guard against damage, I don't know, or if it's possible to disable USB fastcharge in the kernel or not...
