http://slatedroid.com/index.php?topic=40.0Even at the lowest possible resolution, it will often never play the video files, and it will certainly never play any videos at the high resolution you are asking. 320x240 with less than a 600 bit rate, and it will sometimes play them, but with lots of stuttering, and usually quickly out of sync. And that is when it plays at all.This device just doesn't have the hardware to play video.

[/quote]I guess I just have higher standards for good enough =)The low quality encodes required to get playback working at all are just too pixelated and thus not clear, and still have lots of frame stops where the audio continues.If you want decent video, this, spend just a bit more on a device that has a dedicated gpu like the Archos 7 HT. I hope to have mine this week (amazon pre-ordered ship today).
the play is smooth and no audio desync... just the low resolution mean big pixel... but enything else.. any way is not the core application for the ekenps i play video with the internal player. browsing the sd card with ES file explorer and choosing the file.

I believe the application is PeacockVideo, which I can find zero information on anywhere.
Having tried many, many encoders, formats, settings, etc the following is about as best as you can expectownload super cSet Output container 1 to MP4Set Output video codec 2 to MPEG-4Leave Output Audio Codec as AAC LCCheck More for Video Scale Size and enter 420 x 240Set Framerate to 23.976Set Bitrate to 576Check Hi Quality and Strecth it in options (Using Top quality isn't as good as high quality - i don't know why!!)Leave audio bitrate as 64 kbpsAdd your file and encode.This will give you higher quality settings using same codecs as the family guy vid.Still a bit blocky and pixelated on playback, though but the best you are going to get. It is interesting to note that the M001 can't seem to handle decoding of the same media as well as a psp and iphone.As a side note for short videos (21 minutes or less) I managed to code up to 1200 kbps without stuttering, but the playback was no better than 576kbps. So the limit seems to be the ability of the M001 to decode the file, not the quality of the file itself.Hope this puts this issue to bed.

Based on the info I posted above, I was also getting very similar result as you are but your post fits the last piece of my puzzle. For fellow Mac users, the good news is, as long as you can encode MPEG4, you can use any encoder you want. I used "MPEG Stream Clip" the one I used for years!The key for the encoding (and thanks to zagaboo!) - Frame Rate should be kept 24 (23.98) or less (no 30fps as many videos). - Bitrate should be specified 576kbps or less (I was using 512kbps but less quality, of course)- Video resolution should be smaller than 430 width. Not 480 with typical YouTube Wide SD size.420x240 as zagaboo specified works like magic! If you don't like to see the "gray" frame on screen, you can set it as 430x240 but it squeezes the resolution a bit. As for the larges size, I confirmed up to 430x250 but it cause a mirage kind of effects, a bit (like the one I converted with PSP's video encoding settings).Anyway, if you want to have decent quality video, stick with zagaboo's result. That's correct aspect ratio, as good bit rate as possible, and works without frame drop. My post sought to answer the question relating to how the family guy vid was encoded, but for those interested:-Container = MP4, Codec = H263Container = MP4, Codec = H264Container = Apple ipod, Codec = MPEG-4All yield similar viewing results and similar file sizes for chosen resolution, frame rate and bitrate. Mines for the kid, so Mr Men looks fine and Mario looks better pixellated ? an unintentional retro effect.The thing that all this 'testing' has flagged up is that, at the limit of the M001 decoding capability, the results aren't that great for cinema buffs, but pretty reasonable for casual viewing. Stick with the setting I posted and you will be fine. For those seeking super smooth HD playback, better figure out how to solder a radeon HD5850 to the back!!!Jayrod, can?t you upload a smaller clip, rather than a full blown 84Meg sample? If so I?ll look at the file and try and tell you if it is encoded correctly. Also, from your earlier post, I can?t see that the branding makes a difference, but funnily enough, mine does have the Eken brand on it. ;D

[/quote]Any results on the Orb tests from anyone? Orb seems like the prime candidate to stream my existing media collection to the m001. On the video decoding topic in general - do we know that the hardware jpeg/mjpeg decoder of the mw8505 is actually being utilized?
