The only things that are on that list that are not software hacks is Mic and bluetooth. plus smaller screen. Not a good deal to me. Have fun with yours.Maybe USB not sure if it's drivers or non hub hardware.

Aren't those running Android OS 1.5 or 1.6? Gentouch78 is a keeper plus it good enough for what I need it for 7" 16GB. WPAN features are okay if you do a lot of PAN. WLAN going to be faster.

I've not heard good things about Archos support, and yes since it's apparently the "Internet Tablet" it only has Android 1.6, which is odd as they claim it is a 600MHz Cortex-A8 w/430MHz mystery co-processor(never really looked at these as see following).I think that obiwan22 will just be leaving as archos tablets have their own fairly large forum, so he might get better support there...Forum.ArchosFans.com - Index pagelooks like they're trying to port froyo maybe... from a brief look into the appropriate forum...

Don't have a Wii, so don't care about that...OMAP3440 - 800 MHz ARM Cortex A8 + PowerVR SGX 530 GPU + 430MHz C64x+ DSP + ISP (Image Signal Processor) (wikipedia)So hw-wise it's roughly on par with the A81-E (3530 has a higher clocked DSP (C64x)), and further reading in the forums over there turns up a claim that a guy has the GPU accel working for froyo, but I see no fw releases yet...[EDIT]5" though... that's pretty small... although a few weeks back before I had fully researched the available tablets I was about hot-to-trot for a Ramos 7 5"er, but fortunately got cold feet when the first guy here to get one shipped his right back a few days later...
so in the current A8 tablets I'd still have to prefer the [email protected] TCC8902 also has a 3D GPU, the Mali-200 however it appears that none of the fw devs sprung for the commercially supported linux device developer's kit which has the FULL GPU stack from ARM... apparently they're just using the basic drivers available from the dev portal... (the s3c6410 PDN is supposed to have this as well, but obviously doesn't have the full driver stack either...) also found out through some quick searching that quadrant weight 3D perf more than other test element -> low quadrant scores w/no 3D accel...[/EDIT]

The A81-E is @ 600Mhz core...so they're already running the CPU a bit faster. The difference here is as you say that the Mali-200 isn't being exploited by the HW. I've been trying hard to get the Augen folks to open up things a bit more ( Technically, shouldn't they be publishing the base code for the modified kernel ANYWAY ? ). Trying to use GLBenchmark has proven futile, and now makes more sense as to why, because the glESVersion reported by the GT is 0.0 , not the expected 2.0 ( or x00010001, 1.1 otherwise ). I've tried a couple of GL apps on it, and it's performance looks pretty decent, but the apps were samples, and not really meant as perf tests. If the Archos were 7", the I could see definitely making the leap...5"...ennnngh, just a little too small to really make it the right form factor for a tablet.

But those Archos uses old technology but been around longer than new players on the market. But I have to agree 5" is small and that iTouch 3.5" really small. But iPad will get 5", 6", 7" that was suppose to be coming out but the way things looks in the Chipset shortage in production. It's starting to pick up again. To me 7" is good enough to work with and 10.1" would be better read a book or do more with the unit. I am sure down the road we'll see 14", 15.6", 17.3" an etc.Gentouch78 cheap for the money, and rooted ROM makes it a fun unit to use for now.

The Archos 7HT is $192 on Amazon and has been rooted but only has Android 1.5. having said that, there's not much difference in Android OS's (excepting Market) until you get to FroYo and you can always download apk's for apps from lot's of sources.

Better power management, better memory management, better graphics capabilities etc. Speed impovements in general in both UI and browser.. and access to MANY more Apps on 2.1 then 1.5/6 These same things are greatly improved from 2.1 to 2.2.CPG

Of course there are differences but..for me, it's about what I want to do with my tablet - for reading books, playing a little cards or xword puzzle, lite web surfing and email, listening to audiobooks/music and watching videos almost any Android build works - I'm not really interested in a gazillion apps (one reason why I don't buy crapple)
