hey guys. I'm new to the site. i just got my apad today. it's a batch two. i wanted to upgrade my firmware, but my lower usb doesn't seem to work. I've tried 6 different usb cables ( two were brand new, never used). I've followed the flash method from hipad.com to a t and nothing happens. I'll wait 30 or more seconds and try another cable. I've tried the hold power and menu method also. Even when the apad is on and connected to the pc, xp doesn't react. I've tried 2 laptops and a desktop, all running 32 bit xp. is this a cable or a apad issue? is there a way to upgrade via micro sd? any help would be greatly appreciated!

try the 'other' USB port next to the SD card, you might have a batch 3 aPad.but before you do read up on batch 3 firmware becasue the old firmware is not compatible.if it is batch 3 and you flash batch 2 firmweare your aPad will be bricked!

i tried that last night also. I also tried the both sides of the menu button with the top usb, as well as the menu and power together. i read the kernel and firmware versions and compared it to other apad online and everything points to it being a batch two. the apad has the red charge light and the 5v charger also. I almost wish I could brick it, least then i knew the usb would work. lol thanks!

Make sure you are using USB2.0 compliant ports.. and make sure you use the ports that are connected directly to the motherboard. (don't use front ports or any hubs either) You might have problems with certain usb controllers, especially with laptops, so I suggest using a desktop instead of any laptop.

hey guys, thanks for the advice. I've taken the apad apart, didn't see anything wrong with the internal parts. I've used the adapter that came with the apad and I can use a usb mouse with the apad, so the top usb port is working. I've also hooked it to my desktop to the motherboard with no luck. The only thing I haven't tried yet is the 6" usb cable. Where could I get one of those?
